While Kojima's design is more effeminate than the original design, it still acknowledged its roots. Now? There's no acknowledgement, probably none of the writers of this series know this connection at all.

You could blame Kojima's version for indirectly causing that. But ultimately, the blame should be placed on these writers for not doing any research. Warren hasn't even played the games. The whole point of adaptations is to get people interested in the original thing and it utterly fails to do that. It's a complete failure of an adaptation and it disgraces the original work for that.
