The biggest mistake people make when they come into my gym is they think they have to do some fancy total replacement diet or do a carb cleanse in the beginning: WRONG.
That doesn't work for most people, our food habits are ingrained in us from our childhood. The trick is to start slowly replacing the unhealthy foods in your life: Swap bread for lavash, swap pasta for veggie pasta, swap chips for almonds. Nigga, you can eat dry-roasted almonds and they're fucking delicious.
Work out if you can, if you can't then it's always gonna be a carb game.
Personal favorites: Almonds, bananas, broccoli, peppers (all colors), pinto beans, kiwi fruit, hummus, tuna, chicken, turkey, dried fruit, homemade jerky, peanuts, etc.
I was able to augment my workout schedules into a way that made me feel like I was progressing in a video game. This advice may be sarcastic, but if you don't put your head in the right space you will NEVER MAKE IT.

steak and fried veggies like peppers and mushrooms is a good start. takes around 10 min to cook and is tasty. get some microwaveable minute rice or uncle bens and boom you have a decent dinner.
fruits, cheese, and cold meats make for simple snacks or meals as well.

You can walk to any local food mart and get a lb of steak for 2 bucks, caramelize some onions with a little water and onions sauce (sugar is a meme) and eat the whole thing au jus. Scrumptious.
Fruits are good, just don't overdo them. Cheese can be fatty but surprisingly cohesive with a good diet. I hate cold meats.

I simply lack the willpower to be a healthy person. I always hit a breaking point days, weeks, or even a month or two later and I don't try to justify it for any reason, generics or whatever. I've just always been a tub of lard, and tried to do fix that and always fail, so why bother anymore? Might as well be fat and happy if it means I'll be doing it for less time.
You can do OMAD and be healthy, as long as you are getting all the nutrients you need.

Get Lactaid. I'm not lactose intolerant but I actually prefer Lactaid. It tastes better and stays fresher longer. And it's not "fake milk" like people seem to think, it's just milk with the lactose broken down into simple sugars so that the milk doesn't mold as easily.
