He still sucks, but a little less so. His intervention between Dante and Vergil is comically stupid. His Devil Trigger also looks dumb.

I like Nero, not a huge fan of devil breakers though. Also DMC5 having TWO exceeds hurts my fingers, can't be bothered to be that skilled.

Not him but Dante was equal or higher in importance to Nero in DMC5. Dante gets the actual final boss, Nero gets a nerfed version that is basically for the story. Dante and Vergil also get the final scene of the game. Not to mention Dante gets the lion's share of the best moments, including bosses. Obviously they both got more attention than their 4 versions, DMC4 was underdeveloped in general (but still very fun, mostly).
