the launch ntsc models had ps2 build in though. pal ones was half emulation. later ps3 i'm just gonna guess works with half ps2 games maybe? it's hit and miss.

It won't be. There is zero chance Sony is going to develop and maintain a PS1, PS2 and PS3 emulator for free and make sure it works for everything. Even if those consoles weren't a nightmare to emulate, that's a total money sink. The best you can hope with these are the same as how they handled PS2 games on PS4 - limited paid digital releases.

PS4 backwards compatibility is 100% definite though.

Either both launch, or both are delayed. And frankly, if they do launch, I wouldn't buy the initial waves as they are likely desperately rushed with cut corners in their assembly that will result in RROD-type wide spread failures. If coronavirus is disrupting the manufacturing of parts so badly that they are considering a delay, then you can be sure if they don't the early shipments of product will be shoddy and pushed out the door to meet a deadline they obviously are afraid they can't now.

The PS2 emulator used on PS4 is, as I said, limited as fuck in what is actually on it, because getting games to a consistently playable state actually requires them to touch shit up specifically.
