they can't balance worth a shit so they're doing weekly ban rotations so the meta isn't the same 6 heros for months and months. it's probably the worst solution to this problem i've ever heard.

dota's answer to balance is to make everyone op direct counters to each other. the wrong team comp loses to the team it doesn't counter.

I haven't played Overwatch in well over a year, but when I did I stuck to Mei 80% of the time, so this hardly makes me interested in picking up the game again.

You didn't explain how Dota is balanced. I've been playing that game for 3000 hours and even with manual bans, I still wouldn't call it "perfect" balance.

The game has a roster of selectable characters, some of which aren't allowed to be played during the week until the next week hits and the banned character roster rotates is what I get from it. I assume this is for the competitive mode and not all modes

MK is typically like this on a competitive level though. It's often so poorly balanced that when people shift over to the top character of a specific patch, they also start practicing a pocket character that is good but not good enough that it'll get nerfed so that when the next patch comes they're ready and then the cycle begins again.

Looking back at games like League of Legends.
People would get upset if you ban their hero which is why they added a hero select before you actually go to the ban phase.

Even then people would ban other heroes just to troll which caused fights the entire game which resulted in more lost matches.
If anything having a rotation of ban heroes isn't a ban thing.
