IWD, Baldur's Gate, Torment, Fallout, Arcanum, Divinity, TES, Diablo...
Everyone is welcome here (Except for KotOR1 subhumans).
Bonus points for comfy art and music.
The comfiest cRPG thread
Just wait for lariadrones to get here and tell you how d&d games always were supposed to be turn-based.
Thank Gorion you didn't include the dullest crpg of all time. Each attempt Obsidian makes to create their own universe rather than simply deconstruct a setting made by others, has been more disastrous than the last. Aside from the outdated gameplay and lifeless cities, Pillars of Eternity's only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of combat mechanics, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Sawyer vetoed the idea of making anything at all innovative or original; he made sure the game would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable nostalgia pandering to ageing Baldur's Gate fans. Pillars of Eternity might be anti-casual(or not), but it’s certainly the anti-Divinity series in its refusal of spontaneity, fun and excitement.
>a-at least the writing was good though
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the narrative was terrible. As I played, I noticed that every time I engaged in dialogue with an NPC the game presented me with a Wiki-page style infodump instead of anything resembling actual human conversation.
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time this was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Sawyer's mind is so governed by obsession with pointless minutiae of the lore that he has no other style of writing.
Later I read a lavish, loving review of Pillars of Eternity by the same David Gaider. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kiddies are playing Obsidian games at 17 or 18, then when they get older they will go on to enjoy Dragon Age II." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you play "Pillars of Eternity" you are, in fact, trained to shill for Bioware.
Best fantasy title theme?

Did you get banned from Yas Forums? Anyway, best waifu incoming
I like both. TB and RTwP.
I think I might be the only neutral person in this Blood War.
>best waifu
Bruv...
Don't fuel them. And remember that it will last a couple of years at worst. After that, BG related will be comfy again.
>meanwhile Imoen in reality
>ha, you're a queer, fella :^)
>just wait for those filthy larianiggers to start shit
>starts shit
fuck yourself user
BG fans are seething in the first post holy shit
Imoen is nice and it has the imouto factor. and while I think the correct way to play the games in going charname+imoen all the saga... Saerileth is still cuter.
I realise this is meant as a shitpost but it honestly feels a lot like my experience with POE1 so far
I haven't played many of the modern CRPGs at all but the prospect of a sequel to BG2 (even if it isn't a direct sequel which is an entirely different discussion anyway) has made me want to play through the newer releases. Unfortunately so far my time in POE1 can be summarised as follows:
>walk 5 meters
>pointless combat encounter
>random lore book
>walk 5 meters
>pointless combat encounter
>random lore NPC with an essay as a backstory only you can see
>walk 5 meters
>hidden switch that's only visible if you hold down the Tab button that leads to another pointless combat encounter
Does it get better?
I think both are fine too.
BG3 will proabably have fake """Minsc""" cameo.
I've heard something about Imoen having a clone in this timeline.
Eh... I'm not sure how I feel about this. Cameos in games are usually shit.
I would replay BG2 at some point
How is EE?
What about mods?
>Does it get better?
Final boss is a good encounter.
Optional final boss of Endless Paths can be a real challange without the highest level of spells.
And... that's it. Only two momorable moments.
is disco elysium a crpg?
>WD, Baldur's Gate, Torment, Fallout, Arcanum, Divinity, TES, Diablo...
>Everyone is welcome here (Except for KotOR1 subhumans).
Isometric smoothbrain. Go play Ultima and Wizardry.
The only Wizardry I like is Wizardry VIII: Stones of Arnhem.
Borderline visual novel. But I've enjoyed it... for the most part.
Depression is treatable these days
Well its a lot closer to crpg than VN, VNs are 99% talking heads. D:E is like playing CRPG with speech build.
Im giving ToEE another shot. Its been fun so far but i wonder what the point of loot is once i get crafting going
BG writing is mostly reddit tier trash though, where are the deep characters/story? Suffering through this slog just to find why out why its so legendary, but feels like im better off just reading an actually good book than trying to find some good writing in this neckbeard power fantasy with terrible gameplay.
You mean like Goldbox?
i've never liked that outfit but i love the titties
BG1 has that "our first big game" charming/awful writing and feel. Some people like it. Some people hate it.
BG2 is competent fantasy schlock for the most part. Irenicus is straightforward, but well-used villain.
Anyway, people don't like BG series for writing. They like it because it's pretty good at everything. And wizard duels.
>wizard duels
Comfy catchy tune for an adventure.
IWD might be a grindfest, bu DAMN, it's the comfiest cRPG in history.
I would like to see a sequel. If they fuck up. it's not that painful because of the style of the series. And we might get some great music out of it.

Can we discuss a D&D setting that's NOT Forbidden Realms/
You're aware that there's a sequel to IDW, right? It's called Icewind Dale 2.
Everything interesting got dropped or combined with FR.
We can only hope BG3 will go full spelljammer.
Anons, I've tried playing IWD2 three times now and ended up dropping it every time. It's just somehow always too boring to me. One of those times was even in co-op but both of us just got bored of the game. Same with NWN and NWN2 original campaigns btw. Also played both solo and co-op multiple times and always ended up dropping them. I've completed IWD1, the expansion and both expansions of both NWNs though.
So is it me and the people I've played with or are those games just really boring?
>BG3 is not just Divinity milking a good brand. They will go full Magic Marine Adventure in space.
>Captain CHARNAME boldly goes where no man has gone before! Like unknown treasure planets or Githyanki coochie.
Ah... that would be great...
I absolutely love IWD mostly for it being one of the most gorgeous infinity engine games, a decent story, fantastic music and it being my first experience in the genre. But i too have dropped IWD2, for reasons i cant recall now. I should give it a second try.
Played 2 times. Dropped it both times around sneks.
I think it's rather common. There's some serious trash mobs later in game. Sometimes with high HP.
It's the comfy IWD feel that keeps bringing us back to it.
>githyanki coochie
yeau there is a reason no man has gone in there before
That sounds kind of interesting, maybe not for BG, but as a premise. Probably would be more up Larians alley too.
Once you Gith In you will never Gith Out.
I'm taking a break after beating Underrail, but I definitely want to replay it on hard/oddity. I kind of want to try Kingmaker since I'm going to play WotR, but fuck it, I'm just going to wait for that and replay Underrail and Planescape in the meantime.
First half of kingmaker is great. The other half is... a mixed bag.
The kingdom minigame is a waste of time, but I don't think you'll get all the sick items on AUTO.
I think I actually would.
Reminder that if you're having fun with a crpg while NOT playing a gish, it's actually false fun. Perhaps nu-fun. Because they're the only character archetype that's truly fun to play.
Just beat Icewind Dale the other day, now my party sits in the expansion.
>all the equipment and items are transferred
>except the stuff in the bags and scroll cases
Not even the bag of holding. There was good stuff in there.
Also never managed to beat IWD2, but got pretty close to it. It's a heavy grind and while some combat encounters are fantastic, there are a lot of it and not all are well-designed. I think the ice temple is when many people drop it.
Best BG 1 party for a thief/mage multiclass?
I can never pick a good party to save my life.
Also, is BG NPCProject fun?
Say what you will about muscovites, they do produce some quality PC gaming fan content.
Ooof. That girl...
youtube.com
Are there any other games like Divinity that are multiplayer?
Fuck this was the hottest portrait
honestly when you think about it baldur's gate sucks ass. all it has is rtwp gameplay and if you hate that it's over
>bg1
the entire story is told through fucking letters. no point in playing this more than once
>bg2
only choices that matter are whether you support thieves or vampires, then the story becomes a full on railroad.
>railroad
It's not a railroad if you can skip pretty much everything after spellhold.
Probably because IWD didn't have bag of holdings and similar items and whatever you're using that added those didn't take that into account.
>age of decadence for $3 on gog
do i do it?
It is. She's always in my party as a soft spoken wizard or bard.
Torment: Tides of Numenera was a good game.
Dunno, for me it was either the cute elven girl with a shield and pigtails, the pic related female sorceress or this elven (?) wizard/druid with long red hair and tatoos from IWD 2.
IWD portraits were a work of art, I'll give them that.
For 3 $? Yes.
I've enjoyed playing it the wrong way. Straightforward warrior with just enough mental stats to unlock special power armor.
Don't be afraid to do some metagaming here and there.
imo you want 1 "Ogre Gauntlets character" and 1 "Gauntlets of Dexterity characters"
>Dex Gloves Character
Kagain, Jaheira, Yeslick, Ajantis
>Str Gloves Character
Khalid, Montaron, Tiax
The Bloom is a very good area in a shit game.
That doesn't really make much sense. Do you mean the original game didn't have these items? Was playing Definitive Edition.
I was gonna say this one, but giving them both a look now, naeh.
OPs is hotter.
She really was the bestest girl
>Do you mean the original game
yes
Well fuck, that would make some sense.
There were some fucking high-tier magic scrolls in that scroll case.
Just load a save pre expansion, unload the things you want to save and then export, then import?
Don't really want to fight that boss fight again, but it's probably what I got to do.
I didn't tell you to fight a boss again.
Just export the chars to where you are now.
there's a speed hack to double up the game. i've beaten it 4x so no problem there, but the hack to increase resolution revels some pretty bad UI implementation.
honestly running through encounters is the best way to play.
It's not. Her clothes doesnt make sense in a frozen wasteland.
Ah, sorry, gotta try that at some point.
>IWD portraits were a work of art.
Colors carry it. Some of them are actually quite messy speedpaints... but so good at the same time. Motherfukin unique.
I think Manley got a temporary +3 art skill by standing next to Justin Sweet and copying some of his tricks.
