either hell stole tech or somehow had their own, as seen in the revenant's original description

They're not entirely biblical demons but they aren't just aliens either. You can't summon aliens with occult rituals. Some of Eternal's lore also talks about the damned suffering in hell.

If anything, it's the other way around, biblical demons were created from stories and text found from Argent. Sentinel colonized Earth at the behest of the Maykr and eventually split off and that's why the Sentinel race and Humans are so similar. Earth didn't keep the traditions and grew soft and because of the seal on Earth, never had to deal with demons like how the other Sentinel worlds did.

I meant aliens more of in the sense that they exist or originated from a different, fantasy-like universe rather than faraway spacefaring aliens that found us with their technology. I can't really think of an example by what I mean but I'm sure there's some WH40k shit like that or something from some other fiction

Goat legs do not bend backwards. The knee joint works just like ours. The part that looks “backwards” is the ankle joint, which isn’t correctly articulated in the original sprite’s gait. In essence, Eternal fixed it.

It's pieced together lore that we know from the artbook and what little has been said of the Maykr. For some reason, Earth use to have a seal that prevented anything non mortal from setting foot there, this included the demons and Maykr, so basically, extra planer travel was a no go. This was the whole reason for the Mars invasion, because aside from the 61 thousand personnel at the facility, Mars was still a crap shoot. They needed to do something on Mars in order to lower the seal on Earth and claim the real prize. We also know that the Sentinel have been on Earth, because at the Mars core, there are Sentinel Ruins and a Slipgate facility.

I don't really see much of a retcon, since Hell's point is still to make mortals suffer. Changing humanities origin and where the myth of hell came from changes very little.
