It was a stupid mechanic that came all of once for me in Alien Isolation, and it's even dumber here. The safe room doesn't provide any tactical advantage. It's so you can quit playing the fucking game at your leisure!

It's to keep the suspense up. I remember while playing RE2MAKE and just hearing Mr X's footsteps knowing he was right behind me made me screech like a bitch. It's overall a very fun feeling.

The way this was done in 2make was pretty stupid. There just being an invisible wall for him made it look stupid when he tried to follow you and enter. Should have made is so that you maybe need a key for the safe room and then when entering and leaving have an open/exit door animation like in evil within 2 so that it makes somewhat sense for mrx not being able to enter.

It had stations that served the same purpose and resulted in you losing progress if the Ayyyeeee got to you before you could finish saving, or quit playing the game.
