I finally completed Doom 1 for the first time and it was through VR. Before this I had never gotten past the first episode. Game is claustrophobic as fuck in VR with all the corridor mazes

If the former, then it's pretty shit. Pretty much limited to 180/360° videos projected onto a virtual dome.
If the latter, combined with a good hip-style onahole, it's almost as good as the real thing.

Your eyes still have to focus with VR headsets; just putting the screen up to your eyes doesn't fix it even if you're near-sighted. There's lens inserts for headsets anyways for people that really have to use prescription lenses.

By 2030 HMDs will have replaced conventional flat displays, offering views generally indiscernible from reality ('retinal', full-FOV, varifocal, etc.) as a universal basic standard, and will be differentiated by their BCI features. Valve will almost surely be the first to break into this with a 'BCI' add-on for Index. Probably would have been announced this year but might get fucked up by the China quarantine.

Hey now, climbing was a fucky enough problem that they supposedly made it more consistent in the checkpoint update so you're not suddenly losing grip despite not putting extra 'weight' on your virtual arms in the process to cause a slip.

You enter crouch mode if you sit down low enough. I guess it's alright against bots but online is full of the same few tryhards that exploit the game to the max so be ready for getting your ass handed to you.
