/vp/ vs Gen 1. I went on there for a week once, and the hatred they have for gen 1 is absolutely Westboro Baptist Church levels of evangelicalism. It's like they just spouted a meme about gen 1 so hard that they hypnotised themselves into believing that everything wrong with Pokémon is wholly gen 1s fault. They go absolutely bananas if you tell them that a game actually has less gen 1 Pokémon in it than some of their favorite games in the first 4 routes. It's fascinating from a sociology perspective.

The most annoying one that I hate is currently Monster Hunter World vs Generations Unite, but that's actually just really a console war, so it doesn't count for this thread.

I really just hate fags that take arguments literally without trying to look into the deeper implications to see what people are mad about. Yes, mobile and gacha games are technically "games" in that they meet the most minimum definition of "game", but the reason people don't say they're games, or games that count, is because they just want to talk about games with deeper significance behind them.

It's the same thing with why board gamers don't really consider or talk about Candy Land in their discussions. Game is too shallow and unrewarding to be worth the time of day.

Fight against the multiple iterations of smash bros and souls like games.
Fights between fighting game players in relation to what they do and don't play.

My issue with these is the arguments are so USELESS because they're all good games overall. Obviously everyone has an opinion over which is best or worst, but when the debate spills into "that game isn't just the worst it's total SHIIIIIIT" I get frustrated because objectively they're all good vidya.

Probably because they were. Everything after Gen 2 was a soulless rehash. Even /vp/'s favorite, Gen 5, was literally a reskinned Gen 1 with uglier monsters. This isn't even discussing the significant overhaul of the battle system between 2 and 3 that made everything worse and the significant drop off of spin-off titles that were actually fun.

I was having a hard time thinking of an answer to this thread but this probably takes the cake, mostly cause sonic is so fractured there's many hills for anons to die on.
Even within there own eras you can fill a thread with shit flinging over 2 vs 3, adventure 1 vs adventure 2, heroes vs shadow, unleashed vs generations. And that's just the games, the cartoons and especially the comic throws another dynamic into the whole, even more so since the cartoon and comic portions are divided. Archie vs IDW has still been raging.
It's all so tiresome
