This game is more fun than New Vegas.
This game is more fun than New Vegas
I know this is a bait thread but I genuinely think this is one of the most boring games I've ever played in my life. like it's not even close to the worst game I've ever played but fuck is it a slog to go through.
not the most boring perhaps but the MOST UGLY game i have ever fucking played in my entire life.
Bait thread? No, idiot. This is a high IQ thread.
People who love New Vegas praise its writing. If you play video games for the writing you've already lost the plot.
Fallout 4 is better looking, plays better and the gameplay loop is more fun.
The writing in New Vegas is good by video game standards and that bar is incredibly low.
If I want good writing I watch something like the sopranos or read a good book because I'm not a mouth breathing idiot.
it was briefly fun until I realized how repetitive the game was going to be. I thought the settlements were cool at first. My enthusiasm dimmed upon finding out that 2/3 of the game is killing shit to get more scrap because your settlers are too retarded to build for themselves.
This is actually an interesting take, although I would never call Fallout 4 an RPG. Its more like a Shooter/looter, like Borderlands but with a more interesting story. Its actually a great Borderlands game.
In my opinion it’s still the best looter shooter on the market. Borderlands is fucking garbage.
I like you. I like Fallout 4 more than Borderlands because Borderlands is just a mindless looter/shooter where as Fallout 4 seems to be a more intelligent looter/shooter. E.G. Its a fun fucking game. I liked Far Harbor and Nuka World. I think that the problem is that its old fan's are looking for a decision based RPG that stems from its origin, and not another generic shooter. I've played every fallout (except 76) since the 90's and I get the love for the old one, but there's a lot of fun to be had in the newer installments. I think of it as a spinoff more than a canon game, but I wouldn't be upset if there was a Fallout game that had all RPG elements put back into it.
>this game is more fun than New Vegas.
It's because you're a simple minded person, user. Don't feel bad about it though, i heard that another settlement needs your help, go and get that legendary Piple Rifle #111, and don't forget to scrap all the items on the way, you'll need every material you can get to finish your "I Love Bethesda" neon sign.
I already responded to this in another post. On the contrary I'd say playing video games for rich story and good writing makes YOU the simple minded person.
Video games are by far the worst medium for storytelling and writing. There are a few exceptions but not many.
New vegas is a dialogue based RPGs with shitty combat and a mostly empty world. Theres a lot of dialogue options bit most of the conversation really have limited ways it can go and can be mostly skipped through. This is something you only notice after a few playthroughs and the illusion of deep options gets shattered.
You don't have to build any settlements except throwing together a basic one you use to get to the institute, the whole thing is 99% optional.
At list I can run Fallout 4 without having to fix it trough mods and shit.
>Video games are by far the worst medium for storytelling and writing
>the only medium of story telling where you can expand the world in a visual, written and interactive way
>the only medium of story telling where you can experience the story in your own way and affect the world in front of you
>the worst medium
Go and enjoy your mindless shoot n loot loop, user. Don't try to engage in any intelectual conversation, just like that game you love so much.
not really? Just because vidya is bad at story telling doesn't mean good examples of video game stories don't exist, nor does it mean that you should give up on the idea. Also how are people simple minded for enjoying games that are more complex mechanically, and require more attention span? Games like fallout 4 and gta are for the simple minded, and this is apparent when you see that they are intended for the lowest common denominator. Also fallout new vegas not only has a better story, it also has deeper rpg mechanics and more player choice.
i could barely finish it
New Vegas's rpg mechanics amount to dicking around in menus to level up every hour or so and choosing stat check options in dialog. The rest of the game is shooting/sneaking/exploring/collecting and fallout 4 does all of these things better.
i too found it strangely boring and lifeless and i was hyped
Video games tell stories in a unique way. Yeah sure in terms of quality they aren't as good as movies, but they are still something unique that people enjoy experiencing.
I like the gunplay and the change to VATS was good, but as an unarmed/melee fag I was very disappointed.
Wow. So you can interact with the story so it's innately better?
Very intelligent reasoning user.
I will say this. I think the medium has great POTENTIAL for the reasons you stated. Potential that will one day be tapped into.
It's really just because it's such a young medium. It's interesting because most visual mediums have had sub par writing in their infancy and get better and better as time goes on. It already has gotten better but it's nowhere near what it could be. Most of it is actually very juvenile and low brow with a couple of exceptions.
I'll also say this, I don't even think New Vegas has good writing. It's very wordy and exposition filled. Characters do a lot of explaining and not a lot of showing.
it's optional sure, but the game is literally designed around encouraging you to engage with it.
not really? There's also a better reputation system, multiple ways to complete quests, and other interactions you can have with the world which you can't have in fallout 4. Fallout 4 is a much more dumbed down game in terms of difficulty as well.
Town building ruined it.
I didn't find collecting garbage to build settlements out of said garbage to be very fun.
Even as an FPS the game still sucks as instead of adding interesting mechanics to it they just make everything a damage sponge.
It was interesting for about 45mins when the Institute was this mysteries shadow organization replacing people in the wasteland. Then you figure out the Commonwealth is 3 towns and random farmers walking around. Then the institute is just a bunch of retarded "scientists" who have no real goals or ambitions. Also Brotherhood is here for some reason.
>Giving the MC voice acting
>giving me a family I don't give a fuck about/an ending I don't feel good after reaching it
>all the fun npcs have a short stay or minimal dialogue
>POWER ARMOR POWER ARMOR POWER ARMOR
> "bosses" that range from bullet sponges to push overs
> Follower AI somehow got even worse
>Kellog as a rival comes and goes by so quick
>OH BOY, I CAN'T WAIT TO LEARN ABOUT THIS LITERAL WHOS PAST!
Only pros I found was the gunplay, mapped grenade button, somewhat fuckable ghouls, modding and a settlement system that serves as filler.
First of all, I don't turn myself off to it.
I just don't think it has very much in the way of good writing right now. There are a few exceptions but not many. I am very excited for the future however.
Also saying that games like fallout 4 and GTA are for the simple minded make you sound simple minded.
I work 40 hours a week. I go the gym. I read at work all fucking day and I read even more when I get home.
The last thing I want to do is read a bunch of fucking exposition that is written at a college freshman level.
You know what I want to do? I want to shoot a fucking mutant in the head with a laser gun and watch it's head explode. I want to walk around and explore a world that's different from mine.
Does that make me simple minded? No. It's fun. It's simple fun to get away from the complexities of my day to day life.
But to add one more thing to this, I wouldn't hate on anyone for finding new Vegas fun.
I can appreciate wanting to get lost in lore and characters. That's a different kind of fun that I also understand.
My life is just busy now and I don't look to videogames for that sort of fun anymore.
>Fallout 4 is a much more dumbed down game in terms of difficulty as well.
I've only played 4 and NV on Survival/Hardcore. 4 is basically a pulp sci-fi STALKER with bad writing; NV is still an unthreatening walking simulator 90% of the time no matter what difficulty you're on. And all of the deep world interactions you have in NV are scripted quests; 4 might suck at that but the basic mechanics of settlement building and fleshed-out crafting system gives you emergent incentives to explore the map out of player agency rather than being led along by the nose by the writers the whole time.
alright, i get it, you wanna turn your brain off and just relax. But for others fallout new vegas is over all the better game
Are we ever going to get past the stage of people acting like reading npc dialog is an intellectual pursuit?
The Power Armor was fun, even if it went against the lore. There was actual weight to moving around, which was new for Bethesda's Fallout.
Fallout nv had more diificult fights tho, as i recall.
When did i say that? Its just that for alot of people enjoy immersing themselves in a world's lore and chracters, which is something only these types of rpgs can give you
But there were so many of them and finding/conserving power cells was a chore.
I like the gameplay more in fo4, the graphics are marginally better (marginally), and it's 100x more stable, but ever single other thing about New Vegas was better.
I've loved all 3d bethesda games from Morrowind onward, even Oblivion and FO3, the two pariahs. Somehow I couldn't enjoy Fallout 4. I was hooked on it for the first 20 hours or so up until the brotherhood arrives then suddenly just had a moment of introspection and thought; "huh.... I'm not having fun anymore." I think the settlements and inventory were too much micro management or something. IDK. The story was OK, maybe slightly sub-par to your average Bethesda plot and the gunplay almost FPS level, but still impossibly clunky. I think 3 and NV were clunky enough you wouldn't mistake them for FPS but 4 blurred the lines enough to where the clunkiness and unresponsiveness really pisses you off more and is more apparent.
Part of the quintessential Morrowind experience for me was creating my own player home in the construction set and the FO4 settlement system completely answered this desire on the outside, yet somehow doesn't work to scratch that itch anyway.
fallout 4 is the only nu-fallout that kept me interested enough to play to completion. it's also the only one I managed to finish without crashing or weird bugs.
The general gameplay and scenery is nice, but the story elements are lopsided at best and some stuff like the main plot is dumb as hell. I don't get how they somwhow made half of the companions good and fun to have around and then the rest of them shit. Also hearing the player characters voice everytime you picked up some legendary object or used a chem got annoying as shit.
I also have this completely abstract goal for videogames that means nothing, user. Based on your other post, which is easily indetifiable by your awful spacing of paragraphs that remind me of a little place you should go back to, i can tell that you're really the lowest common denominator, who just wants to turn the game on and your brain off and shoot some people, and you could care less about world bulding and fleshed out characters. What if i told you this "untapped potential" you talk about isn't close to getting achieved becase of people like you, people who enjoy nothing but the little dopamine rush that comes to their head when they go boom boom in a video game, your way of thinking is what leads to Fallout 76 being created and the destruction of RPGs with actual love and attention put into them. That's the future you chose, but you're probably end up enjoying it, seeing as "it's more fun".
OP, I get Fallout 4 gets shat on a bunch but you’re falling into the trap the Dark Souls 2 and Prequel fans fall victim to. You’re acting overly aggressive and trying to make the other things seem shitty in comparison to Fallout 4.
based!
*ahem* A NEW SETTLEMENT NEEDS YOUR HELP
Town building was the only good part of Fallout 4.
Don't you even fucking compare Kenshi's base building to Fallout 4 shitty settlement system. I'll fucking fight you.
these.
>Taking paragraph formatting seriously on a video game message board.
Ah, yes. You truly are enlightened user. Please teach me how I can be as intellectual as you.
Almost everything you just said is incredibly cringe inducing. So I need to slog through poorly written games in order to get games with better writing? That's my fault? Also btw video games were literally originally crafted for that dopamine rush you fucking idiot.
Do you know how we get games with better writing user? By getting games with writing so good that people are actually compelled to play them for the writing. It's hilarious that you think that burden is on me, like this is some kind of sacrafice I should be making for the...greater good... Of video games?
user I'm not trying to be mean but it sounds like maybe you should try gaming a little less. You sound like a lunatic.
you're right
kenshi's system was a lot fucking shittier and way slower
You know what. I'd like to add an apology.
I forget where I am. I forget that some of you literally have no life and see video gaming as a lifestyle.
Sad.
At least it worked, unlike Fallout 4.
I haven't played since 2017, are there any good mods in that 3 year span? Any complete gameplay overhauls to turn it into a sandbox so you can ignore the shitty quests but the NPCs dynamically war on one another or anything?
town building was shit because everything looked dirty and you couldn't make anything line up without using the console.
go play fifa
>everything looked dirty and you couldn't make anything line up without using the console
Why would you ever play a Bethesda game without mods? Vanilla settlement tiles are shit, but mods have been around since before the official creation kit.
Yes. I will enjoy my life and play video games for fun instead of using them as a crutch to hold up my miserable existence.
Sounds like a plan.
based and correctpilled, anyone who prefers FNV over this has california brain disease
It may be more fun than NV but that doesn't mean it's a better overall experience. The game is 70% based around settlement building so if you don't like that, it's just a subpar looter shooter that many, many, many other games do its "good gameplay loop" much better.
Far Harbor and Automatron were pretty good, though.
cringe. Carrying about gaming as a hobby doesn't mean that you use it as cope for your miserable life
So what i say is cringe inducing but your "one day a magic game will appear that will change the way the majority will play and enjoy video games forever" is fine? You don't even care about video games if your posts are anything to be taken seriously, you don't think video games should be more than what they were in the 80's and early 90's yet you want then to be this perfect bastion of writing and gameplay. I'm going to stop here because all you're doing is talking in circles and strawmans, go back to your crazy lifestyle of playing Fifa, and let people who actually enjoy video games talk about them.
me btw
>I will enjoy my life and play video games for fun instead of using them as a crutch to hold up my miserable existence.
>Posts on Yas Forums
That's okay user. Based on your attitude it's very clear to see what you use it for.
If calling it a "hobby" makes you feel better, that's okay. Be happy user.
Kenshi is the only Early Access game I have no regrets about buying. Watching it grow from a shitty desert farming simulator into the Adam Jensen experience was a pretty wild ride. Hopefully Kenshi 2 isn't a let down.
it is. the setting isn't as good, though.
I strongly disagree
>Go into a "store" which is actually an abandoned diner on top of a hill
>Some woman claims to be using it as a general store even though there's neither supermarkets or anything around to scavenge from, nor space to store any actual stock to sell.
>There's literally a dead fucking skeleton still sitting in one of the booths of the diner.
Why? Why is everything in this game still full of 300-year old dead bodies and rubble? Why has no one fucking swept out their god damned house in that long?
cope. I have other things i care about.
Talking in circles?
Here I'll make it simple. I don't make video games for a living you fucking idiot. It is not my responsibility to make games that have better writing.
I also said that the writing is poor FOR THE MOST PART. I have supported games that I think are going in the right direction.
It's funny because you're actually the one talking in circles and you're such a fucking idiot that you don't even know what point you're trying to make so you're just backing out of the conversation.
Because the world is dead, everything is irradiated and overrun by raiders who will take anything not nailed down, clean or otherwise and kill you after. Why bother?
Because Bethesda thinks Fallout is just a big radioactive theme park where people are stuck in this 50's style forever and just accept life is what it is and never try to evolve and make a new way of life.
So you leave a rotted fuckin corpse literally sitting on the floor where people are supposed to eat? You couldn't even toss it into a dump? It'd take like a minute.
>go into a sealed pre-war vault
>find post-war drugs
I never understood this even the first two games used the backdrop to do interesting things with it.
Like how the NCR invented a new type of stucco housing to make up for the fact that most of the old world building tools are worthless and rusty.
