The Lite has less battery life, a lack of TV, tabletop mode and kickstand, and a lack of motion controls or HD rumble which will interfere with some titles. I also don't think you can perform aftermarket repairs on, say, the joycons if they go to shit and they were suffering from drift out the ass during the first sales.

I'd say go with the normal Switch since it's barely $100 more and treating the other modes and the ability to actually play every game as a bonus.

From what I can tell, the Lite hardware only operates at the throttled handheld-mode frequencies. The effect varies from game to game, but some look and run incredibly poor under that throttling.

get the lite. the features that user listed, besides battery and tv mode, are gimmicks. very few games use motion controls and those that do have alternatives. the switch has only a marginal battery performance edge and, if you only play in handheld, the lighter console will feel a lot better in your hands.

also the smaller screen/resolution makes games in handheld look at lot sharper in my experience. this is from someone who has owned both. i vastly prefer the lite for handheld play, though i do miss the ability to play on my tv.

It'd be better from a budgetary perspective to go with the whole Switch over the lite because you'd be paying the same price later on if you buy external accessories like controllers and stands to compensate.

another user here with both original and lite switch, the lite is much nicer to hold because of the weight. I almost never played the original switch in handheld because it just didn't feel good. I also use a case with raised ergonomic wings on the back.

Lite is a waste of money because of joycon drift. When you get affected you'll need to send the whole system for repair but with the regular you can use other joycons or a GC controller while the other joycons are being repaired.
