Because suicide and depression are main themes of the game. Even though it's presented as a le jump scare ironic anime VN, it's still a short story about mental illness and self harm. It's like a really condensed memetic version of Katawa Shoujo but for mental issues rather than physical ones. It's no wonder both happen to have the same kind of longevity.
