The game goes on sale often. Just get base game with all the first ops. And from there earn reknown to unlock.

This game never had soul lol, I play it for the mechanics. The art style IS deteriorating but it was never good.

Nah. It's pretty complex as a game, but that only makes it more fun. The gunplay is pretty easy so if you're even half-decent with a mouse you can get by on kills alone. However, you will get punished endlessly for the first 100 hours by unknown spawnpeeks, not knowing operator synergy, not knowing the maps, etc.

That's part of the fun, though. you'll get some fun kills, and then get instabeaned through a hole in the floor and the floor beneath that floor by some level 300 megasweat, and you'll say "oh shit, i didn't know that angle."

Watch killcams at first.

Mostly no you can still play. If your a god at flick shooting you can make it to the highest tier while barely understanding how the game works. Just ask Ash and Jaeger mains. On the flipside you really need to know the maps and how the operator abilities work.

Idk I just got into it, it’s pretty frustrating at times but after 25 hours I’m getting the feel for it. Really fun game to play rank and get more more drunk.

I have probably somewhere around 800-900 hours played on it since launch on both PC and PS4, played a lot of competitive and got quite good, and it's objectively shit now. They jumped the shark hard and then ran the game into the ground even harder in the last few years. Not the same great game it once was, they ruined pretty much everything.

No. Learning all the interactions and map spots takes time but after you have a decent idea of what you're doing is pretty fun, and bug/balance-wise it's the best the game has been at since release. Just don't take it too seriously, even in ranked. Sweat only for the fun of it.
It's probably the best FPS currently in the market, at least in my opinion.

What WAS ruined? Shit modes being in ranked? Visibility issues that made some angles easy kills without doubt? Terrible gun balance that made certain ops must takes and fucked the meta so hard the game was basically CoD without respawns? Broken maps and points that were IMPOSSIBLE to win, at all? A shitload of bugs that took YEARS to get fixed? Outright broken gameplay with shit like dropshotting, bullet holes that didn't sync to server, widespread recoil macros, three room long bullet hole angles, an even worse peeker's advantage and more? No, seriously, what was ruined? Because the game only improved over time and you're legit an absolute retard if you think otherwise.
