I recently bought Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the Whatever having only a bit of an interest in the series and having played some of Bloodborne when I had a PS4 and really liking it. I'm only at the Bell Gargoyle fight right now. 6ish bosses in.
Now, I know people have their quarrels with DS2 when comparing it to the rest of the games, but I don't care much about that. I'm mainly wondering if anyone else played this and found their mentality changing from being intimidated by bosses and expecting to be trading blows and learning strategies to just sorta brute forcing their way thru bosses and attempting to go full ape shit with damage on them? It feels more satisfying and also more effective, but I'm also a little worried I'm being autistic and not enjoying the game as it should be.
that works on bloodborne, I don't know if it will work on ds2, but if you knew the game is not as good as the others why did you pick it instead of 1? everyone agrees that 1 is great
Henry Lopez
Never bothered with any of the other Dark or Demon Souls games after Bloodborne.
I went in blind and platinumed it in 10 days, never having played a Souls game before.
Pic related.
I don’t see how you millennials can find something so basic and straightforward, in any way interesting.
I didn't know until after I bought it and mentioned it to a friend, they told me. Then I read up on why a bit. I like the DS2 mechanics though. Reminds me more of BB than what I expected DS to be like.
Xavier Green
well it's not bad, it's just not as good, and there's no wrong way of playing it, just do whatever works
Henry Turner
2 is cool, so no worries.
Hudson Watson
Rad, gotcha. Thanks. I guess I just expected everything to be this elaborate and intimidating dance between me and the enemies because that's sorta how BB felt when I played it and I've seen so many Souls Soulsborne video essays and they make it out to be very intricate fairly often. But I suppose it's all perception.
Isaiah Carter
Oh hey, haven't seen you in quite some time. Play any good games lately?
Hudson Perez
there is no rule how to beat the game and it has a few broken weapons that are good for most of the game
Jacob Barnes
2 is the worst soulsbornekiro but I think it's still possible to enjoy it somewhat. The jankiness really hurts it though. Feels like you're struggling to beat the controls and the technical shortcomings instead of the enemies. I'm surprised the game made it to release with those problems, you would have expected them to be ironed out. It's like they didn't have any playtesters or something.
And damnit, it's sad that this gorgeous set is stuck in worst souls.
Ive mainly been playing Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier for PS3 and Destiny 2.
I played the FF7R demo but was very disappointed with it.
Kevin Gutierrez
Back in the vanilla everyone and their mom was using the soul spear spell to cheese the hardest bosses. That spell was nerfed to the ground since then.
Other than that nothing really else breaks the game. If you're stuck, say Freja or some of the other bosses that people find hard, just summon the npcs.
Its the most accessible souls game actually
Robert Wood
The areas inbetween bosses are more difficult than the bosses themselves in 2
Michael Price
Trading is fine for all of the base game bosses desu. DLC ones are actually tougher and you may need to learn them. If you wanna go full ooga booga gorilla then just powerstance two maces
>soulsbornekiro I don‘t get this. Soulsborne is ok, but why kiro? At this point just call them post demon from game or grow up and call them action rpg and action game.
I liked when kingshadowsoulsbornekiroring games were more rpgs and about learning enemies weakness instead of just hack and slash
Christian Bennett
DS2 remake soon
Wyatt Smith
It's my least favourite souls game but I still have 200 hours on it. It's ok ish. Swords are obsolete, get a mace or a rapier and steamroll through the games content. Level design is horrendous but areas are well done for the most part and diverse. Branches or yore are fucking retarded and this mechanic shouldn't exist. What else... I really enjoyed the pvp Enjoy your unskipable rolling credits... twice
Owen Scott
Imagine the name after Elder Ring or whatever the next game is called.
Just call the genre Miazakishit.
Isaac Barnes
My dick.
Imagine that game with fixed hit boxes and E3 graphics. The perfect Souls game
Oliver Reed
Protip: Max out adaptability as soon as possible
Logan Ward
Oh boy, it's this retard again
Justin Hughes
>200 hours on dark souls 2 Why would you hurt yourself like that, user
Kayden Brooks
DS2 is good, people hate it because it's not DS1. Both the setting and the general feel of the gameplay is different. Also the huge downgrade didn't help. The original DS2 had some big problems but SotfS fixed most of them and rebalanced the game. Just be sure to play the first game before playing DS3. DS3 is "Nostalgiabait: The game" playing it without playing DS1 would be a huge mistake
Juan Phillips
I couldn't care less about ds2's simple graphics, they are the most colorful and varied in the series, the hitboxes didn't bother me that much, I don't know why everyone complains about it so much. The only bad thing about the game are the bosses
William Cooper
I'd say play it at least 5 years after having played 1, if you play right after the nostalgiabait won't click and you'll realize the game is uninspired
Aiden Scott
People gate it for : -horrible controls -terrible AI -shitty hitboxes -numerous bugs -shitty level design And many more I forget
Hunter King
Some boxes would be better if they simply stopped being bosses. Make the skeletons optional for example, and the cult dudes just some guys in a room you could pass through. Fixing the hit boxes would help improving some of the bosses like Aava and basically anything with grab moves.
I want better graphics because I can't stand some of the color mesh in this game. It's offensive to the eyes at times.
Plus a remake could do with more weapons and who knows if they wouldn't include more levels, that would be cool.
Thomas Russell
honestly you're gonna end up liking 2 the most out of all of them. playing it first means you aren't going to have the shock of noticeably worse movement, or any other differences from 1. and 2 has objectively the best weapon variety and is by far the longest souls game. it's great, you'll love it. just make sure you have 20-25 points in adaptability, it makes a huge difference
Nolan Bennett
Oh and despite all this DaS2 is still one of my favorite games of all time. It just hit the right spot to me.
Cooper Morales
What are you on about? SotFS made everything worse
Owen Perez
>20-25 Make it 39 m8
Kayden Turner
OP here. This is my first thread on Yas Forums in years and also my first ever thread on DS2.
Aiden Phillips
>first thread in years >it's about das2 Based. Welcome back OP
Ethan Nguyen
DS2 is probably my most replayed. The amount of freedom you have at the beginning means every run feels different. I rushed the rotten the other day, used an ascetic, then proceeded to rape the game with a crypt blacksword. Shits fun, even with it's flaws
2 is the least linear I'll give it that, but it doesn't count for much with the awful level design and nonsensical world building
Jace Hall
I agree. Bonfire ascetics are probably one of the best ideas that they had
Cameron Parker
My autism for the agape ring forces me to follow the same order every time until I get the ring. Did a double notched whipp 10+ each its fun as fuck. But you gorra have friends to provide you the repeated items.
I haven't defeated Fume Knight with SL40 yet, been working in that.
Christopher Price
Only played 1, but that’s pretty much how it went. As soon as you realize the Taurus demon (first real boss after the tutorial) takes a grand total of two hits to die, you just take the weapon with the highest power, stand away from the boss for a while to see how it can attack and then just circle around him and whack him until he dies.
Daniel Gomez
You can also kill most early game bosses with Firebombs alone.
Hudson Fisher
>I couldn't care less about ds2's simple graphics, they are the most colorful and varied in the series I never really understood this when considering DeS and Ds1’s decently varied palette and the outrageous difference in environmental design and detail when compared to Ds2. It’s especially confusing considering DS2 has some real ugly areas like Earthen Peak and Brightcove
Parker King
I always wished we could have STR/DEX scaling throwing axes and javelins in souls. 3 actually did get a javelin so that's something.
Charles Williams
The first real boss of Dark Souls is fucking Blighttown
Michael Miller
You say that, but it’s not like things ramp up from there, it’s just a confusing area with unfamiliar enemies, poison and toxic shit everywhere. Once you’re familiar with it, it takes like 2 minutes to get everything and kill the boss.
>lighting up all the torch stands in the Gutter and looking at it all from the first bonfire
Aiden Martin
>Why do people talk about things I don't like?
I don't know.
Samuel Mitchell
Personaly i didnt like it because >Too many bullshit traps that you cant really see beforehand like in DS1 >Artificial difficulty (enemies behind door all of the time, or having to fight 4-5-6 enemies in very strict spaces) >Adaptability and stiffer movement in general Maybe im just bad, idk
Kevin Nelson
>once you're familiar with it Yeah I guess, once you get an OP weapon, once you get to know the game right, once you know how to circle around the boss and wait for an ouverture, I guess you can say then that the game is easy. What's your fucking point
Isaac Wright
Based and torchpilled.
I bet the undead from the gutter are happy to have you as the chosen undead
Ayden Cooper
oddly comfy
Carson Rivera
DS3 was my first souls game and I loved it. Still haven't played 1 or 2.
Jaxson Torres
>then you’re done with the area Really wish they went with the original idea of having it be a much larger Grave of Saints, that place looks great.
Jason Scott
I forgot >Level design was good, the enviroment is fine but the areas of the game are too far and not really connected, going back to Majula is kinda boring
Josiah Mitchell
traps are hidden, by definition
Anthony Ward
>DaS2 is a good game but a bad souls game How true is this?
Jonathan Edwards
Yes I doubt they are gonna fix the terrible level design and boring bosses that are all the same
Asher Bailey
If being a good souls is what Dark Souls 3 is then I don't want a good souls game.
Nicholas Adams
>das2 >get a mace >39 ADP There, you beat this shitty game already. Move on to das3
Levi Thomas
>overleveling that much No soul
Brody Moore
We definitely need a “days since Yas Forums last cried over dark souls 3” pic
Joseph White
I have literally nothing to spend my souls on in this game I found myself being level 70 by like the 5th boss
Ayden Walker
a lot of dark souls 2 bosses you will beat first try because they are just dumb
Ian Bailey
>game lets you overlevel >denying it Why shouldn't I overlevel when das2 literally throws souls at my face
Joshua Martinez
They were literally bullied into insanity that’s why we have this now.
