What to expect? Tell me boomers, how similar is the story to XIV?

Ignore the question mark

The story is the polar opposite of XIV because you're not the ultra special hero of light, you're just a random passerby while the story revolves around everyone else.

If you think wow or FFXIV has fun combat I wouldn’t even bother playing it.

>retail with Trusts
Basically XIV but superior in every way. You probably want to look up a guide to learn the numpad tech tho

Storywise, the initial setup is similar, with the three citystates divided by race and so on. Zilart expansion's story is basically Ascians. Other than these two big ones there aren't too many major similarities.

>If you think wow or FFXIV has fun combat
Not really outside of harder solo MSQ duties or harder raids/trails, I know that FFXI is going to be something completely different and I don’t see why I don’t like one and not the other - if that was the case it would be impossible for someone to like Dark Souls and Dragon Quest at the same time. I certainly don’t play XIV for the combat, and XI seems to be closer to traditional FF combat in mmo form which seems nice.

just started it. got a few trusts and leveling rdm to 30 in the dunes but idk where to start the story.

learn how to use macros so you can make the game less of a chore

What sever and what city? I heard the game is better when playing with someone else.

Gate NPC for Missions. That will pretty much eventually down the line segue into the first two expansions.

Each town also has dedicated RoV/Sparks NPC so go look that up (RoV will give you exp buffs and more trusts).

asura, bastok

thanks, its pretty comfy so far I actually like the slower pace

Name? I'll help ya if you need it

Will post my character’s name if this thread manages to stay alive by the time it’s finished installing

Also, steam says it’s 6GB. Does steam download it with all the updates or will there be an update to that will greatly expand the size? My computer is extremely shit since I mainly play on console (too poor for a worthwhile pc), so I had to be a 28 gb usb for this since I literally had less than 1 gb left.

Yeah you don't gotta do RoV right now. But if you feel the pace is slowing down you can make your way into RoV. What sucks is RoV (because of how the story is designed around it) requires you to basically start each expansion to finish it, so you might want to stop RoV purely out of the fact you haven't finished a previous expansion and RoV is trying to leave it already. So there's also that benefit to not delving into RoV immediately.

I think you can get up to 5 trusts from RoV without going past the first two expansions though, but I guess you'll get to that point when you do.

Googling says you probably want to download the files from a torrent or tehkrizz, check it out yourself I don't wanna link r3ddit

How does it work with steam, your SE account and playonline though?

Also, is there a CD key?

PlayOnline will download additional files, my folder is 13.8GBs.

>13.8GBs
That’s smoll enough
It was literally £8 tho

playing pre99 on privates that both dont work and have nobody on them is fucking garbage, retail is really the only way to play

expect to alt tab every second trying to figure out where everything is or what every item does

i've been considering buying it also. ff14 has no sense of danger and i just get fucking bored. it's either that or resub to wow and finish leveling my character idk. how long would it take me to complete the story in ff11? i'm no too worried about doing endgame tryhard stuff.

Someone said they beat it in 45 days

okay but how much in-game time, beating it in 45 days doesn't really tell me that much.

Depends on how much time you're willing to commit and whether you're going to read the wiki or go blind. If going blind, probably never because some things are super bullshit and thank god someone else figured it out.

my autismo friend wants me to play ffxi with him since i made him play classic. surely if i got bored of classic, ill get bored of this in less than a month right?

Depends on why you play. If it's for plot, you can get a couple of months out of it.

not playing for plot, that's for sure

Then less than a month.

Looking the starting areas I like how the FFXI equivalent of Ishgard and Ala Mhigo, the two Eorzean cities that you can’t start with in XIV, are both starting cities while somehow Windrust and Gridania are available to start with in both games.

Bump

Having also picked the game up over the sale, I'm really glad I have multiple monitors. I certainly don't miss how needlessly cryptic old games could be, I'm sure I haven't even seen 1% of how silly the quests in this game can get.

The story is not retarded like XIV. Completely different.

XIV - you are a crystal warrior of light and one of the chosen meant to save the world from evil

XI - You show up in a nation having chosen a career of adventuring. Everyone dislikes you and you have no notoriety so you rise in the ranks, become famous and then get caught up in political issues and then behind the scenes stuff, leading to revelations about deities and struggles between them. You help the governments and elites of the world understand the arcane and hidden demonic nature of reality.

I am out of luck then

Attached: image.jpg (4032x3024, 1.9M)

Been playing XI for a few days now and also new. Went with warrior to 35 then switched to paladin and might switch to dragoon in the future. So far I've noticed that:

>The game doesn't tell you shit, so you want a wiki open at all times
>Especially when it comes to finding quest and whatever you need to complete said quest
>The entire game is much slower paced and relaxed compared to XIV
>Enemies can pose a serious threat if you're not careful and checking them.
>Story (so far for me at least) doesn't treat you like the chosen one, but as an actual adventurer

I'm having lots of fun even on my own, but it's very much a slow burn compared to other MMO's speeding you through everything.

Attached: FF11Zonemap.jpg (3144x2668, 1.69M)

Is this map everything or just the base game?

>putting XIV in the OP
fool

Looks like most of it. Doesn't include the past or Adoulin though.

I have no idea I never used Steam. But a quick glance seems to suggest that downloading it from tehkrizz pre-emptively is still the best option.

>you are a crystal warrior of light and one of the chosen meant to save the world from evil
Warrior of Light is a nickname from how they traveled from 1.0 to 2.0, and the MC isn't even the only one, just the most famous one due in part to Minfilia being able to remember them. They started as a random adventurer with the Echo, of which there are many, and became retardedly powerful through their adventures (which includes killing like 50 gods, ending a 1000 year war, and liberating two countries) within a span of a year.

How much they've done in so little time is extremely silly, but people seriously overstate the WoL being a "chosen one." 5.0 hinted towards the WoL being something more, but being a shard of someone important didn't give the warrior of light their strength.

tl;dr XIV WoL earned their status, they didn't start with it; they're hardly a "chosen one," especially after what was revealed in 5.2.

Was there not a giant crystal where all the chosen ones come from and fly off of it like shooting stars? :*)

Only the open fields for Zilart, CoP and ToAU. It doesn't have the "dungeon" maps (see for example Ghelsba and Ranperre's Tomb map not included connected directly to West Ronfaure). WotG is not in there, and it does have different maps despite like 50% of it being a re-use of the base game maps.

sure, offscreen, in a training montage
just piss off already, nobody cares about that turd

I just want people to know that’s its ok to play both, and that you don’t need to pick one or the other

and unless you want your thread spammed to death by general-fags, you do not do that

>the play online music
Also, it’s not letting me register my chocoboo shirt or that mount

>chocoboo
Oops

XI's presentation of the story is infinitely superior. As for actual story content, I don't know what XIV's is like really. But XI's has some good shit. Not perfect but you'll be happy you went through it.

I say this because I don't remember XIV's story because I had to rush it and skip all cutscenes because the risk of not reaching the current endgame and maxing out tomes/weekly lockouts for just one week meant you would forever have a hard time getting into party finders/static parties. And from what I remember the cutscene viewer doesn't actually have all of them, and viewing them just from a book instead of sequentially as you actually walked through the world and did boss fights did not interest me.

On the otherhand while much of XI endgame was also locked behind the storylines, you didn't have to finish them until you wanted to. The progression system didn't require you to blast through it (i.e. because no weekly lockout and constantly increasing ilvl making past gear worthless).

So I actually read the XI cutscenes/storylines for the most part, and not XIV's.

Also, XI's cutscenes are just so much better. I don't know why XIV just has your character pivot spin 180 degrees without actually moving any limbs at all, and emote and flap his lips every 30 seconds. I don't know why they don't actually make the characters all actually move well in the cutscenes, but damn did that make me not want to watch the cutscenes anyways.

Seriously, I don't get this design decision. I thought XIV was supposed to be about the story, but Yoshi fucked it up both with the progression system and just the fucking direction of actual cutscenes in general. I was very disappointed with this part of XIV and really killed the game for me.

>playing without a controller

Which private server is best for soloing the game? I just want to go through the story.

I like both XI and XIV

>I don't know why XIV just has your character pivot spin 180 degrees without actually moving any limbs at all
i'm guessing they don't want to spend money on motion capturing

Can't seamlessly alt-tab and type with controller. And I don't think you can bind macros to button combinations so waiting for the macro menu to show up is a no-go past level 30.

You're not going to play this more than a day. just uninstall and go back to ffxiv

Learn how to setup ur own server :^ ) ( I heard it's easy actually but never tried it)

The original version was heavy on the motion capture and acting. Some speculate that this was what bankrupted the development funds. The cutscenes are incomparable to the 2.0+ version of the game which is nothing but nodding.

Jesus, they made ARR out of this?

I feel sorry for XIV. They had to cut so many corners and make a bunch of really bad gameplay design decisions that still bogs them down to this day, just to get ARR out on time. But if they hadn't made those decisions the game wouldn't even exist.

>because the risk of not reaching the current endgame and maxing out tomes/weekly lockouts for just one week meant you would forever have a hard time getting into party finders/static parties
Nobody typically gives a shit unless you're trying to join a hardcore week 1 clear static, and crafted gear is a thing. PF groups requiring higher ilvl than the minimum are also usually made by worse players. XIV has garbage itemization, but it has the most lenient catch up gear, by far.
If you said it gets harder find blind groups or harder to clear because the better players already beat it, then you would be correct, but there's at least a surprising amount of people willing to help late players get their first clear. I beat ShB 3 months late and still pugged the first tier of Eden.

Weekly limits are pretty shit, but it sounds like you're putting pressure on yourself needlessly.

>Also, XI's cutscenes are just so much better. I don't know why XIV just has your character pivot spin 180 degrees without actually moving any limbs at all
1.0 had extremely high quality cutscenes. 2.0 being made on no budget killed the cutscene quality and they never retooled their engine to support it, I guess, so you're stuck with nodding forever and occasionally looking mad.

11 plays like archaic mmos of yesteryear and used to require teamwork and social ability to progress in the game. Although it was tedious to some, it actually did make for a unique experience and a very helpful and intertwined community of players. The leveling was brutal but working together felt like no other game.

This wouldn't last since naturally over decades the majority of players were top level. If you just started, you're shit out of luck. The main cities were empty as were the areas surrounding them. You would literally hit a wall in progression. So they did all they could do, and add NPC party members for you to play with.

This worked great, and allows you to essentially solo the game. You can also buy all the equipment you would ever need from an npc, instead of the player market. You are now left with the story of 11, which is ok, but now the community takes a backseat which is what made the game great in the first place. There's not really any other solution however, since 11 isn't as popular as it was when it was released. There are still nice people that play, but nobody will rely on you, and you cannot rely on anyone else the way you used to. Some argue it's a more hollow experience and I cannot refute that, but it's up to you I guess.

Aside from that, the Mithra are infinitely better catgirls than ff14's.

>I feel sorry for XIV
You and everyone who preordered it.

Valhalla, perhaps. They have a number of custom features that make you significantly more powerful than you would be normally. I was able to solo CoP as SMN on Valhalla.

>I had to rush it and skip all cutscenes because the risk of not reaching the current endgame
dont even play xiv but it just sounds like you were just being autistic the only people who ever do shit like that are just the top 1% of people who poopsock everything

same but i dont like the snoobs who feel the need to shit on everything from both sides
