Sure it is a anniversary right now so there is a event to get a free character that requires a lot of grinding but the game is fun if just play it when you feel in the mood.

It's worth checking out I'd say. It's grindy but it's grinding that you do spread out over the course of long periods, rather than long grind sessions. I only put in 1-2 hours a day and that's enough to do most of my daily raids and event missions. 6th anniversary is soon and you can expect at least a few hundred free draws over the course of that alongside the two extremely powerful freebie characters from the event that's happening right now.

The early game isn't terribly grindy. Plus you get tons of free stuff, some of which is pretty decent. Plus the anniversary roulette is soon, which can mean tons of good free shit.
Most content can be done with fairly unoptimized gear. But if you get too into it, sooner or later you'll be sucked into farming twitter raids for 0.05% drops.

You just fight against the AI for a few rounds while it goes through all the difficulty settings. Depending on how well you do, it'll assign you a starting rank and then you can play online.

Only "core" units released in recent months were Earth Naru (who is only really core in kengo set-ups), newJannu (who is good, but not on the level of, say, Lucio) and a bunch of characters for Dark (which has enough "core" characters to make 3 core teams anyway so whatever).

theres no doubt power creep, but saying none of the eternals arent useful is so wrong.

The main story is kind of bland until ~40 chapters, but a lot of side stories are great (Society events, WMTSB, etc).
If you are into mecha and Kamen Rider, you will love Robomi events for example.
There is a lot of new and past events each month, so it's a great side game if you just want to enjoy the story.

Cygames is trying to expand too fast and I think it is biting them. They keep having to buy rights to do crossovers to keep any money going into Shadowverse, which never quite picked up especially in the West. This game seems like it is underperforming for them too and Relink very clearly had a horrible development cycle. None of their other gacha games are sticking either. Granblue is still going strong but all the other games they personally developed like World Flipper and Dragalio Lost underperformed. They were sponsoring in Evo, made an esports team, etc... All this money in the last few years being poured into stuff that doesn't seem to be doing anything.
