Reminder Rex is very likely since the decision to not have him was made before they knew they were gonna do multiple rounds of DLC, and Sakurai liked 2.

Other than fallout, any one of those could get a spirit event or mii costume announced at any time. That’s why they’re on the list even if they probably aren’t likely to get in as a character.

Why are there so many people that seem to think Ryu Hayabusa will get in? I mean even before we knew the DLC characters.

It's the flagship character for Koei Tecmo, one of the few big Japanese gaming companies that doesn't have a playable rep.

Koei Tecmo and Nintendo have been buddies lately. They've made games using Nintendo IPs, like Metroid: Other M, Hyrule Warriors, FE Warriors. They are also represented in smash with the Fatal Frame assist trophy. However, they're not represented with a playbable character yet.

If I hazard a guess based on past additions we'll probably get 2 third party reps and 4 first party reps. Of the first party reps 1 of them will be Mario/Pokemon/Zelda, 2 will be of a franchise that is active or semi-active and 1 will be of a dormant franchise. The third party reps are more likely to be retro (i.e. they appeared a significant time before they appeared in Smash). If I hazard a guess on specific franchises my bets would be on;
- Zelda
- Kirby
- Metroid
- Golden Sun
Zelda is pretty overdue for a new addition especially now that Metroid finally got some new reps in Ridley and Dark Samus, they could theoretically hold off on a Smash Rep for Zelda until BotW is out and pick a character from that like what they did for Greninja. Kirby has a pretty wide selection to choose from it's just a matter of whether Sakurai will acknowledge post-KSSU Kirby, also given the series' track record we'll probably see another Kirby game announced soon-ish.

Metroid is also running on a bit of a high and could go with the Greninja play like Zelda although in this case due to Prime 4 instead, which given Prime 3 introduced some new Bounty Hunters could end up being more reliable than BotW 2 for a new rep. I put Golden Sun because if they don't add another FE Swordsman (or equivalent) then Golden Sun would probably fulfil that role, otherwise Advance Wars could be an alternative. This would be the presumed Dormant Franchise rep.

As for Third Party no idea, the third party's gotten more chaotic it's not a reliable situation anymore since they moved away from older historical characters (Mega Man, Pac-Man, Ryu & Cloud) and instead had more modern characters as options (Bayonetta, Joker, DQ11 Hero), so I really don't know.

If you switch Birdo and the Prince with Crash and Rayman respectively you get best timeline. Taking Echo Fighters in consideration was a shit move and I'm sure Rayman as a Mii Costume won't work.

Unfortunately even if I want this to happen I really think these just prove Nintendo doesn't really give that much of a shit about Earthbound for real, since they didn't even care to put in its real villains
