>not playing it on an Index

LMAO

>paying $1000 for a marvel meme quipping on rails shooter with teleport movement

Three movement options can be played on off brand 200 dollar headsets
What next

I'm playing it on an Odyssey+ because I can't afford an index. I am expecting it to be kino and win GOTY

I will pirate it and see how I feel. Valve has enough money and does need mine. If it sucks then I lose nothing. I just want audio files of Alyx in pain to add to my collection for masturbation purposes.

I'll be playing it on my Quest. Not the best graphics but it's immersive enough for me.

There are no on-rails VR games, other than rollercoaster simulators.

I cannot express my disappointment that they aren't using my girl Merle as the VA

Attached: merleDanridge.jpg (1440x900, 158.57K)

every VR game is on rails

I mean Drop Dead Dual Strike is on rails but that was a remaster of a Go game

Nuh-uh

"VR" is bullshit because it is no more than a monitor on your face. If the camera moves and your body doesn't move with it you get sick, or at the very least, lets you know there is nothing about reality being emulated.. Only thing worth playing on these head sets are flight simulators and thats fun for an hour.

If you argue with this you don't own a headset or you don't use the one you have, thats all there is to it.

If you come back with "you're too poor to buy one" you're only trying to manipulate. Everyone on this board can afford one. They just are not worth having. Nobody knows anyone IRL that regularly plays on one. You can't compete with a M+K, the activity is way too fun.

The Gameplay trailer pretty much proved to me the game is just a VR game.
I've been telling everyone it would just be a high quality VR game, but everyone was like "HALF LIFE 3 IS FINALLY HERE!" I'm sure it'll be good though.

>Valve has enough money so I'm gonna pirate the game
>Paid Valve $1000 for a Headset (which comes with Alyx)
ok

Imagine arguing vehemently against VR when you've never even tried it

Attached: 1392847591567.jpg (647x643, 151.52K)

If I could afford a VR system, it would only be an Index. I don't know if it's still the best in the market but I don't see the point of spending so much money on something and then deciding to spend a little less.

>if you try to refute my stupid argument you're either X or Y
I have fun with my VR headset every day. Cope

show me a VR game that maps your physical locomotion movements to your in-game player avatar

Okay store.steampowered.com/vr/

I mean Quest vs Index is a 600 dollar difference and if you havent tried it before I wouldn't drop a grand. However if you NEED the best specs and graphics Index is the way to go. Just make sure your rig can take advantage of it and to have some Vive wands lying around because some games play like shit with Index controllers.

imagine shilling untested technology for free

many games give you movement options like leaning forward, pumping your arms, bobbing your head. In games like these, you usually have free roam over the level you're on

Tea for God
It generates walls and lifts based on the shit that is surrounding you. Your furniture will turn into something else, etc. There's also robots to shoot. It's really cool actually

770 hours logged in SteamVR. I disagree with you, maybe you just suck at getting immersed and/or have a weak stomach.

>untested
Oculus dev kits came out several years ago dumbass

>movement options like leaning forward, pumping your arms, bobbing your head
I meant locomotion-type movement, like running, jogging, strafing, etc...

I've used a Rift and a Vive with friends who own them. The Vive has to be the way to go.

If you get sick, I have some sympathy for you, but that is a problem with your body. It would honestly suck to be one of the few people who isn't able to adjust. VR is great because I get to motion that is more satisfy than a monitor would ever be able to deliver since I can see the scale of the word and know just how fast I am going. If this fails, they by your own standards, all other video games fail even worse since they are even further from reality.

>Welcome. Welcome to City 17... uwu

Any games that support Vive Trackers have that, there’s a list of them somewhere.

jogging in vr space is unrealistic in expectation. Strafing is extremely common. Vive (and surely index) track X Y and Z axis and know when and where you're moving

Oculus: budget
Vive: jack of all trades
Cosmos: oh shit nigger what are you doing
Index: high end
Pimax: Freddy Francesco

>jogging in vr space is unrealistic in expectation
1000$ is also unrealistic in expectation for a few short on-rail shooters

Thinking about buying a used HTC Vive. Should I pull the trigger? Or go with something else

Attached: 1568006251683.jpg (415x666, 22.25K)

Base stations are kind of a pain in the ass to set up but they offer much better tracking than the inside out tracking of the Rift S and Quest. It's really convinience vs quality

Do you own an empty warehouse? How are you gonna jog irl to jog in a game?

>vr games are on rails because they don't track motion
>no they aren't on rails because they do track motion
>yes they are

ok cynical smart guy

Tell me when the mod that removes the VR for mouse and keyboard comes out. Then I will buy it. Unless its a pirated version, in which case get fucked valve.

how much is it? If it's 30% off retail, I would say go for it. Clean it first because you just KNOW they got cum on it

Yas Forums hates HL:A's quips
Heres a formal list of all quips Yas Forums finds genuinely hilarious, well written, and perfectly layered to get a chuckle every time:
>Why do we have to wear these ridiculous ties
>Do you know who ate all the donuts
>Catch me later i'll buy you a beer
>MY ASS IS HEAVY
>WE WILL KICK YOUR ASS
>MAYBE WE CAN THROW ICICLES AT AN INTRUDER DO HO HO
>youtube.com/watch?v=OdLRZzCf_kk
>Now, how about that beer I owed ya?
>I see that MIT education really pays for itself
>Tell Doctor Breen I said FUCK YOU
>It's a zombine, heh
>AR2? No, but i've heard of an AR3
>It's a magnusson device, specifically named after its inventor
>Oh i'm sorry, I didn't know I was interrupting "tea time"
>Maybe i'll forgive you for a certain microwave casserole
>First you will be baked, and then there will be cake
>That aperture science we don't know what it did
>Cake core (le ebic cake recipe)
>I hate trains, I hate pipes, I hate steam, I hate zombies
>GAME OVER MAN GAME OVER
>This one time, my buddy keith and I, camped out on a military base
>KIDDIE LAND
>You dangerous mute lunatic
>CAVE JOHNSON HERE WITH LEMONZ
>Entirety of TF2

I say go for it since Quests are still out of stock everywhere
Don't listen to the whiners, you won't regret it. Just don't expect Ready Player One level immersion.

Looks like just another generic VR fps.

Not a fan of the dialogue or what seems to be a focus on zombies more than other enemy types. The aliens in hl2 are cool and all, but I really just want to get into tense shootouts with the police.

You can mod non-vr games to be vr but I’m not sure about the other way around.
I think you would have to create animations for every possible action

seething

Some dedicated projects have been made like HL1/2 and Quake

The difference between all those half life quips is that none of them come from the main PC you low effort fuck. Alyx making jokes while exploring alien infested areas takes away all the tension.

Think I was in that server a few hours ago. Laggy as shit and poorly optimized.

I'll be enjoying it in my chair, facing forward, on a Rift CV1.

>none of them come from the main PC
>Literally TF2
Get fucked you goal post moving fag.

>You can mod non-vr games to be vr
you very much can do that.
youtu.be/aQl7c2ZILCI?t=64
Excuse the shitty audio. it was one of the few videos without people talking over it

>How are you gonna jog irl to jog in a game?
on a 3d treadmill like that guy in Ready Player One

Read my first sentence you quad nigger, I’m talking about the half life quotes specifically

Yeah that’s what I said.

All I can say about having played Arizona Sunrise is that yourself speaking is awkward as shit in VR.

MOVING
GOAL
POSTS

Well those exist, if you look up VR treadmills. Unless you’re a different user

Ok thanks. I already know what I am getting myself into. I got to try out a Vive at a buddy's house and it was a lot of fun. I was just wondering if there was a better option I was missing.

It'd end up creating a lot of situations that aren't natural for KB&M, like having to decide to do some form of analog door-opening with controls, or making it an on/off state. Or dealing with gun + other hand stuff that VR can do for free. Or basic shit like brushing aside objects.

He said the other way around.

How many of you hopped into city 17 already? It's frighteningly realistic and apparently it'll look even better in the actual game? Absurd.

I'll be honest the prospect of making a fully explorable and interactable realistic cityscape using the mapping tools of Alyx sounds incredible. Forget the campaign we might actually be on the brink of a new age of pure HL map/mod kino.

> you can only play on the valve headset
stupid bastard

If you're not playing on an Index you should probably just kill yourself

>we might actually be on the brink of a new age of pure HL map/mod kino.

The first thing I'm going to do is make AI more responsive and attack on sight.

Are these the new SteamVR Home maps?

I rung up a local vr event or cafe type thing in my city and asked if they'll be having Half Life Alyx launch day. The guy I spoke to on the phone explained due to a few reasons they probably won't offer it 'officially' but booked me a session on launch day to "let me know if anything changes". Didn't charge for the booking either which is cool.

It's gonna absolutely be pay per hour, and since I want to finish the game I'm worried, we didn't talk rates since it's kind of an "off the menu" type deal if it doesn't fall through. I don't wanna spend more than $200AUD because anything past that I might as well just upgrade pc + buy a headset.

>finally resolve to buy the valve index and just finance it on Paypal
>it's out of stock
>news websites say in stock Monday March 09
>delivery: 4-8 business days

damn it will be cutting close af
