If your game looks like an NES game, I am pirating it. Have a nice day!
PRO-TIP TO ALL ASPIRING INDIE DEVELOPERS OUT THERE:

Thank you for shilling that NES game in your pic, kt looks neat.
just because it looks like an NES game doesn't mean it's a simplistic 2D title.
Shovel Knight is a 3D game.
No, it's not.
>NES game
>that font
>outlined, detailed sprites (sorta)
Nah, that's more like SNES
This is all it takes to be a tibetan monk? Why the fuck have I not reached nirvana then?
It literally is but ok.
youtube.com
Why try to emulate that Seppo crap and not the superior Famicom?
holy based
>dear developers, us consoomers only care about graphical fidelity
m7 they know this
they've known for 20 years
sprite layering is not 3D
by that argument a photoshop file is full 3D because it has layers
I don't even bother wasting precious hours of my life.
you're posting here so you are wrong
oh looks it's that guy that always has to disagree with what people say
If they don't look like NES games you are gonna pirate it too, so why would they care.
It's literally using the Unity engine, but ok.
clearly my time is better spent here
That looks cool, I'll go buy it now. Thanks op
Based retard.
dude even street fighter alpha uses a technique like that
>forbes
It's not just parallax, they're outright running a 3D engine with flat assets.
OK. I hope you have fun.
at best it could be called 2.5D, as fighting games are called, retard. It's not 3D any means
"flat" like "two dimensional"?
Not him, but I'm an artist, I use photoshop, and practically speaking, I could make the layers in photoshop in seconds, without doing 3D stuff at all. What the programming side is doing, makes no difference. The actual production of the graphics requires no 3D knowledge. Zero. In fact, I look at this shovel knight image and think, "wew... these programmers sure have made things complicated."
this.
The South Park RPGs do the same thing.
Yeah, the assets are absolutely 2D. But the game is running in a 3D engine.
It's a minor technically but it goes to show how dumb the developer is.
>panzer paladin
Thanks op this looks great, not many classicvania games around, so definitely gonna play this
>It's a minor technically but it goes to show how dumb the developer is.
That's literally how 2D is done in Unity, retard.
Wasn’t this done because of the 3ds though? What’s your point
Is this a trick statement cause like 80% of "Retro" Indie indiegames don't look like NES?
But you promise to play it all the way through right?
I couldn't care less about the visuals. It's always the barebones mechanics that aggravate me. It's fucking 2020. We can introduce so many permutations on the bland Metroidvania ripoff """"genre"""" and yet 99.9% of these games literally have only the following:
>Basic attack
>Up/down directional attack
>Items 1-5
>Super attack
And fucking nothing else. If your game can't match fucking Guardian Heroes from 1996, I have zero interest in what you're developing. It could the most visually spectacular 2D game ever created, it will all be for nothing if your mechanics cannot hold up to a game from decades ago.
That indie game looks like it had actual vision, passion and effort pouring into it unlike most pixelshit garbage where it's completely uninspired, unappealing le blocky 1980s retro grafix kino that'll be $19.99 plus tax.
I plan on releasing all games I make for free.
ie, the "sprites" are actually models which are just a plane with the sprite as a texture. Symphony of the Night does it too.
>pixel art game
>"8-bit"
>"16-bit"
>parallax scrolling, sprite scaling and rotation, mode 7, fuck-tons of background and sprite layers, 5000 sprites on screen at once
Fuck you if you do this
Game developer here.
Unless you have plans to hire an artist for me, I am going to use the graphics that are available to me.
Okay? That's the point of my post. I don't give a fuck about graphics, I only care about mechanics. If your game looks worse than Bubsy 3D, but it plays better than DMC3, I will give it a chance.
>an NES
>an Nintendo Entertainment System
>an
This is why you can't afford video games.
It's Unity you dumb retard, how else would they do it.
>Fuck you if you do this
>don't use technology that's convenient
if NES game designers were able to do that chances are they would have done it, what's your fucking point dumbass
That's how GPUs in general do HW accelerated 2D games
everything is just two tris textured so they appear correctly
ATTENTION INDIE DEVELOPERS:
If your game stars a cute and funny girl with a wide selection of different outfits, I am buying your game. Have a nice day!
Then call it what is is, aka 32-bit or 64-bit
I'd say mine is closer to a GBA game or something.
>If your game looks like an NES game, I am pirating it. Have a nice day!
Generous man. If your PC game doesn't have a physical release, I'm pirating it. Good day.
That is a god awful face holy shit
t. asshurt indie dev that can't make anything more than pixelshit.
I think he means that shovel knight was developed in a 3d engine. Either that or he just looked at the title of the boundary break episode (image related) and took those few words as gospel. Either way he's still an idiot since if it's the first one, then he's not even close to addressing what OP is saying, and if it's the second one then he's a fucking jackass who only takes things at face value.
tl;dr he's still stupid
If you don't give a fuck about graphics, why would you create a thread to declare that you treat games differently based off of how they look?
I'm not the OP. I'm someone in that trio of comments that explicitly mentioned that I don't give a fuck about graphics, and I was replied to about someone's insistence that I cared about graphics like the retard OP who made this thread.
He's obviously not OP, retard.
No NES game looked like that.
Jokes on you, my game is a free passion project.
If you're not OP then why are you calling yourself a retard?
why hasn't treasure ported the 360 versions of this and radiant silvergun to pc yet?
Joke's on you, I'm releasing my game for free
If your game is on PC, I'm pirating it.
2D games from 5th gen did this technique too. Shovel Knight just did it in a very clean way and with 8-bit styled visuals. The final result in the way the backgrounds work is very nice though.
>pirates trying to justify stealing from indie devs
you have shit morales just live with it
