I 100% guarantee there is an invisible wall and you can't fall off in any part of the game. Barnacles don't even lift you up any more because they don't want new players falling and feeling nausea.
It makes me wonder about climbing ladders though, what happens if you let go? I would assume they're only going to put very short ladders in the game, like the one they showed off in the shootout scene.
