Its 12 characters have to say the same catchphrase over and over everytime you change the map level of bad.
Theres so much characters that literally each single character including rean became unimportant

What other games have a team attack system like Chrono Trigger. I know Legend of Heroes games has something similiar like it and Disgaea as well?

I always wanted to try that game, have had the first one lying around for ages. How good is it?

Its good if you skip 30% in cs1, 45% in cs2, 70% in cs3 and for sen4 you have to drop the game after the fragment arc, else it will turn into 100 hours of fucking shit.

Is this game good or is it a Nintendie meme? I played the demo and it seems pretty standard AP-based combat system with jobs.

It’s pretty great for the first half but then it proceeds to take a nosedive off of a cliff in the second half.

Pretty great game if you can handle the second half. Although I enjoyed the shit out of some fights in the second half. And the super bosses are all fun and have absolutely fantastic music.

Recently beat Bravely Default and Bravely Second. How the fuck did the writing manage to take such a nosedive in quality in BS? Like even ignoring the 4th wall break stuff and the inferior soundtrack they literally wouldnt stop making the same 3 jokes the entire game and it really got on my nerves. Pretty much the only good bit of story it had was the stuff with Altair.

What happens in the second half?

Just finished replaying DQ1 SFC after clearing DQ11S for the first time. Maybe I'll have the patience to finish DQ2 this time.

without going into much details, you have to repeat what you did in the first half of the game three more times to advance in the story but you have the airship and full party so you can ignore the optional stuff and gun for the plot beats.

I hope you enjoy fighting the same bosses over and over again, and again, and again, and again, and again, etc...

The first okay Tales game in years which considering things is pretty damn impressive

It's pretty nice, but it isn't for everyone. A blend of a visual novel and a traditional RPG is a pretty nice idea, but the plot gets pretty retarded by the end and the true ending is just bad. Battle system is pretty unique and fun to play with at first, but turns to AOE spam after the halfway point. It also sucks at explaining anything to the player. Like, there's an element system, but you don't have an in-game encyclopedia or something to learn how shit works. Same shit with counter-attacks, you have no idea what just happened when you see them for the first time and have to figure it out by trial and error. Still a solid game overall, especially if you're into edgy shit.

user wait are you me? I’m also on dq7 I bought dq11 back in December and thought maybe I should play the other games beforehand. I started at 1 and I haven’t been able to stop. I beat 9 already though just need to beat 7 and 8 before finally starting 11.

Question: why do people claim that every JRPG plays the same? I’ve played my fair share and they usually do a pretty good job in differentiating from one another.

Because they actually play them.
Theres very few JRPGs that try a different way like star ocean, tales which go more into semi action combat and trails which goes more into a tactical combat.
But in the end its all just "grind and x-spamm strongest move"

Not him, but xilia 1 was an eternity ago and after xilia 1 all that came was tales infamous sequel, mobiletrash and fangames.

I figure it's kind of old Doom clones. The only ones that are worth talking about are the ones that dont play like terrible imitations.
You'd be surprised how many terrible doom and quake clones are out there.

It really really was, unfinished as shit, combat completely unforgivably broken, the link system was really poorly thought out in general, the completely unnecessary split MC, and probably one of the least "party" like JRPG parties I have ever played.
No one really interacted well or played off each other which is weird since thats the one thing Tales games usually do well.

Alvin and the old man whose name I cant remember were the only people who had a complete character arc.
The rest of the party either started to get one but never fully realized it or in the childhood friends case just didn't have one.

Decided to take a break from PQ2 (right before the 4th dungeon boss and last ticket request) and put The Alliance Alive back in, which I greatly enjoy. Might do NG+ on that, since I left it right before that.

How’s PQ2 compared to the original?

The fights are much better, the dungeons are blander (although the 4th one does seem to actually manage to get fully into its gimmick, unlike the prior 3).
Good game overall, but not good enough to eclipse proper Etrian Odyssey.
