Nah, 6 was the peak. It was the most refined form of what the series started as, on top of having the best story. 7-9 are great in their own rights, but there's a lot of downsides to the overhaul as well, and the franchise just became too fucking anime at that point.

Nah. I watched plenty of it when I was younger but I eventually realized how badly written nearly all of it is (yes there are a few exceptions of course). There are tropes and cliches specific to anime (and some in japanese media in general) that get regurgitated so much it makes me wince every time I see them now. And designs that used to look cool to me are embarrassing now (like twinkboy Cloud with his ridiculously stylized hair and huge sword who's supposed to be a tough guy, just can't take it seriously anymore. Admittedly it was easier to look past with the PS1 era graphics, but the better they got the more apparent it became.

It wasn’t as good as 7 or 8 but it will still be classed as part of the golden age for me; it kept the core FF classic elements, turn based combat, over world, great soundtrack, it was just not as good as 7 or 8 really.

I’ve only played FF7 recently and I’m honesfly super surprised with by how not broody and emo the story was. And how relatively absent Sephiroth was in the story. I expected a lot more Kingdom Hearts sort of dialog
