Why did 343 remove the ability to play as elites? They're such handsome and stately creatures.

Wait a minute. Those officers—are they supposed to be Majors? Why the fuck are they so fucking tanky in Firefight?
Blame compfags. They're the reason Bungie neutered playable Elites in Reach, and when Microsoft saw the potential for making Halo an esport, they naturally catered to compfags.
>Blame compfags
You're probably right. I hate Halo 5's "esports" atmosphere in general.
Would you want to play as a 343I elite?
>tfw you accidentally bite your own eyes
Also very likely 343i could not program playable elites without delaying their games. Remember this is the same company that took years to 'fix' the mcc.
People at 343 looked at this Hunchback of Notre Dame and thought it was okay to ship.
Don't forget the massive feet that make them look like Bratz dolls.
You didn't know moon shoes were a crucial part of sangheeli culture?
Bungie Sangheili are space Japanese, 343 Sangheili are space Chinese.
underrated post
Are Unggoy crustaceans? What's with the arms?
Can I get this straight, why are the Elite skin unlocks for Reach so FUCKED?
Why is General before Field Marshal and why is Officer the last unlock?
The entire unlock system is fucked.
At least now with the inclusion of CE and how much XP it gives for some reason, I'm blowing through levels now
I was playing the Xbox 360 version last night, Field Marshal is the last unlock.
Why
>Field marshal (or field-marshal, abbreviated as FM) is a very senior military rank, ordinarily senior to the general officer ranks.
>elites can't be headshot from behind because of their hunched stance
>"REEEE BUNGO NERF"
>elites in Reach got into physiotherapy so they stand up straight and get heashotted from behind like everyone else
>"REEEEEE BUNGO BUFF"
I wonder why
Interesting, but why is the regular Officer the last one then,
Sangheeli are just shitty Turians anyway
>he doesnt play as an Elite in Reach when he can just for the novelty of it
Double XP until March 9.
Halo needs to cash in on coomers and make an RPG where you can play as any race and play dressup
Probably a bug in the MCC version. I played the original on Xbox last night and field marshal is the last unlock.
Was it bungie's intention to make sexy aliens?
Reach's character art style is so fucking hideous. Everything is overdesigned cluttery shit.
>make character look retarded
>blame the game for having lots of options
>make gaudy armor combo
>robot arm + skull helmet
>it's somehow Bungie's fault
>Dismiss one example
>"Checkmate, nerd."
Too many ridiculous customization options ruins the art style. Did you learn nothing from Team Fortress 2's downfall? The art style only gets worse and worse as the series progresses.
Playable elites were always awful.
Turians will never look this stylish.
But that doesn't look bad.
How so?
And also altering your screen shot to be blurry and hideous.
That doesn't looks fine though
Reach’s artstyle is fine, it’s just your fashion sense—judging by what I assume are your handpicked cosmetics—is utterly nonexistent.
t. CEfag
>But that doesn't look bad
But it actually does, champs. Fifty gorillion pockets on the chest, hip holster, digital watch, muddy, scratched metal, muted color pallet because God forbid you have color in a game, random useless pieces of metal sticking out, stripes everywhere, check your eyes mate, your nostalgia is blinding you something fierce.
They're called "Sangheili".
Apparently they have different HP/shield values or something and compfags scrreched too loudly. You can play as them in custom games but expect people to bitch and moan about it.
That's pretty gay, tbqh. I always played as one despite the size disadvantage.
>fifty gorillion pockets
Wow because people in the military need pockets?
>hip holster
Where else would they be putting their magnum?
>digital watch
That's a GPS
>muddy scratched metal
Yeah, Spartan's armor doesn't stay pristine forever
>muted color pallet
But the screenshot you posted earlier had super bright colors, you're just making shit up dude, then you pick a screenshot that chooses the pale colors for that armor
>useless prices of metal sticking out
Only place this is applicable is the kneepads and anyone who doesnt use the grenadier kneepads is gay anyways
>stripes everywhere
Only places there are stripes is where stuff can logically attach things to the armor, and they are used for that
All posted by me
I also think pic related is peak character design
>If I can make up practical use excuses for every single mistake of design it means it isn't an eyesore
Hoo boy what a faggotron
Nice argument retard.
I bet you buy smegma from the store instead of making it at home too.
user, you're an eyesore but that doesn't mean somebody can't find a practical use for you.
I'm not making up shit, you're just finding any reason to blindly hate Reach since it's one of the weaker Halo titles.
If you don't like it, you can just not use it when making your Spartan, look at the rest of Noble Team, they're properly designed using the selection of tools, why do you feel the need to over design your own spartan?
>check your eyes mate, your nostalgia is blinding you something fierce
Was busy with Firefight last Monday. I’ll give you the fifty gorillion pockets, definitely not /fa/.
>I'm not making up shit
He says after fabricating excuses for poor hideous designs. "B-but a Spartan may need six pockets on his chest!" Lmao just stop homie
> you're just finding any reason to blindly hate Reach since it's one of the weaker Halo titles.
There's plenty of reasons I think Reach is a weak title. Ugly art design is icing on the cake.
As much as I hate agreeing with a stinky barafag coomer, I also liked playing as elites
Actually, yes. Grunts are supposed to be arthropod-like with an exoskeleton. 343 fucked up in 4. Though this armor design with a tube up the nose is still awful.
>may need
Where does a Spartan keep his spare magazines?
Because they suck and aren't fun to play, why even add them if they're no different from Spartans.
This
>My lizards
Honorable beasts of war
>You klingons with exoskeleton
A species of kuuderes made to be the blue oni to STRONK humanity
Up his ass
Jeez. What were they thinking?
This once again proves that Reach haters are in fact gay, and want things up their ass.
Lol calm down
Why are aliens in games almost always humanoid with only superficial differences like digrigate legs or weird heads etc?
Where are my truly weird aliens?
Post aliens that actually have radically different bodyplans.
Sangheili, AMA.
>bungie
>ever listening to compfags
>fucking 5 invso sword guys on leg truth and rec
FUCK
R8 this alien design.
50% higher xp cap + double xp week
You get a crazy amount of XP in CE compared to Reach. I know it's double XP right now, but the fact that CE gives XP for shit like 'comeback kills' and Avenger/Revenge medals means I'm regularly get 10-15k teamwork XP in CE versus 4-8K in Reach.
Because Halo is mostly for normalfags so they only wanna play as generic biker helmet human.
On a good day in Reach, I could hardly hit 4k lmao... Firefight’s where it’s at for me.
Fuck you. The squid-mouths are cooler than any of those "non-Ecludian" jobbers
A good number of people like elite designs because of its mix of cliche alien and human features. Even though it isn't what we'd define as realistic, Bungie managed to make a lot of things believable.
????
They didn't think that, they just thought it looked different enough so they could claim it as their own along the rest of the franchise identity while still looking somewhat similar to the original so that fans wouldn't be too jarred.
>radically different bodyplan
>still has a spear identical to humans'
The muscular structure is a bit too Earth-like, since it looks like a cephalopod you might make the limbs operated by a hydraulic process of some kind instead of normal muscle tissue.
IIRC the Officer came with one of the special editions of the game or was a pre-order bonus or something along those lines, so naturally 343 went "hurr special skin" and made it the last one to unlock despite being pretty much the worst looking of the bunch.
How do you even manage to get honorable religious samurai lizards mixed up with Space Prussians?
Sangheili are based from Norse/Romans with a Manorial structure.
If it's the worst one, why do you care about it being last?
>military culture revolves around single combat and personal glory
>Rome
Rome, and many European influences, including French.
I don't - Ultra was always my favourite. I just saw that nobody had mentioned the Officer's origin as a bonus item and figured I'd put it forwards as a theory as to why 343 decided to make it the last Elite unlock.
What does “Wort Wort Wort” mean?
>"It's actually no accident at all that the terms we use are those applied to less structured armies (e.g. a Covenant lance is functionally more analogous to a lance fournie rather than "squad.")."
>web.archive.org
>Sangheili culture has historically been based around a type of feudal manorialism, with multiple allied clan being led by a kaidon who controls a fortified keep and the surrounding territory.
>halowaypoint.com
Don't forget Minor/Major Domo (ghosts of onyx) along with direct translations such as Ultras being Evocatus and Majors being Obedientaries.
Big gay in sight.

>tfw no elite gf

She drew that specific image of leg references for free. She likes their backs quite a bit, along with their legs/ass.
t. paid for her art.
>medieval military terms
>"less structured armies"
>medieval feudalism
The only thing there that ties to Rome is the translation of the ranks, and that's essentially arbitrary without any of the other stuff to go with it.
>She likes their backs quite a bit, along with their legs/ass
>t. paid for her art
Boy, do I fucking hate Rule 34 lol.
>a sharp object with a single point of force attached to a sturdy base long enough to provide leverage
>why isn't it a non-Euclidean spiderweb shape attached to a bundle of dinglehoppers?
gee willickers, why would these alien-designed weapons look similar to weapons designed by humans living in the same universe working with the same laws of physics?
I like it actually. Everything except the skulls color
>Exposed arms
>70% of face is a mouth
>Dropped the sleep aesthetic for Doom 3 marine meets predator
>Not even wearing a skinsuit or anything. Gonna be fucked when the temperature drops
>Genuinely looks like a hunchback
It pisses me off how badly they managed to ruin a great design.
Some Sangheili rank and file systems parallel to Roman structures. The Rangers in Denning's books were almost exactly like that, for example. The Manor system derived from Rome, and was used through Europe.
Then don't use it.
Rome was an extremely vain empire
Not quite. The Covenant where based on multiple empires, but their main inspiration was the Japanese one, with the Elites being a species of Space-Samurais
>Not quite. The Covenant where based on multiple empires, but their main inspiration was the Japanese one, with the Elites being a species of Space-Samurais
I literally just posted their main influence my dude.
Tobias Buckell was the one that started it off. Unless you have proof otherwise, I'll give in. However, I chat with those people quite often.
So is the unlock system throughout games? If I play CE can I unlock shit for reach?
Here's a bit more we wrote on them, with actual research.
docs.google.com
You get tokens by playing multiplayer, tokens are game neutral so yes, tokens earned in CE can unlock shit in Reach and vice versa.
>Then don't use it.
I never have... kinda. Still can't believe you and I are fans of the same game, is what I'm saying
What is there to unlock in CE, anyway?
