Love high tech ships, though
Was there an update or anything recently? Any reason to get back into the game right now?
Anyway,

Been awhile since I played, but I recall preferring Overdrive Hammerhead with a fast kinetic gun, eventually moving on to Harbinger for slipping behind enemies, then a Doom
Tri-Tachyon
Well I got my paragon after raiding tri-tachion to oblivion and I kinda feel like the the game is "complete"
I don't have it in me to start depopulating the sector, and fighting the hegemony seems like a slog just because of their sheer numbers, I'm happy to keep taking their money despite the constant inspections.
AI fleets are no threat to me anymore, my two colonies are armed to the teeth with alpha cored hi-tech fortresses and shields, and I'm pumping out capital ships every month or so.
Not sure what to do now besides fucking around with a bazillion mods or wait for a new update. Is there anything interesting to find out there besides more nexus stations?
The game gets two updates per year with a hotfix or two between each releases. So early this year and one before December.
haven't even started yet

Install Messy Portrait Pack and start your waifu collection.
Too bad the whole faction got "balanced" into oblivion.

Is there a mod that allows computer controlled officers to take control of multiple smaller ships? It would be great if I could choose between using an officer to either confer their bonuses to a capital ship or a squad of smaller vessels instead.

Tough choice between normal Dominator, Vindicator and Tahlan Doominator
Ready for that update, the new skill system sounds fun.
Is there a setting or mod to increase the availability of faction specific weaponry? Even with a commission and relations at 100 I can usually not outfit a ship with faction specific weapons which triggers my autism.
Faction weapons are always available from their fleets
For II, there's a planet or two with an industry called, Imperial Bazaar, or something like that, and it is generally well stocked with II stuff.
Otherwise, your best bet is either producing it yourself via custom production or using the console command mod. Word of advise though, if you use the console command mod, make sure to get the latest dev branch version, and not the public stable version.
You can use forcemarketupdate to refresh inventories
Personally Im looking forward to AI ship shenanigans
They'll probably nerf that thing's flux reserves.
At the very least when it gets into player hands.
Thanks.
Not what I'm looking for but I appreciate the suggestion.
By default its every month isn't it?
I got bored and started playing Avorion after someone mentioned it here.
Hm, looks like Starsector and Space Engineers had a baby
How to learn which weapons or stuff to put on your ships? There's so much stuff in this game, battles are multiple ships each with tons of weapons and upgrades on them.
Am I too dumb for this game? It seems so hard to come up with a reliable way to win battles
>At the very least when it gets into player hands.
LOL NeverEver
What really got me to play it is the workshop ships allowing me to do stuff like have a Gundam fleet with mobile suit fighters that I could control if I wanted, they recently added faction packs so when it kicks off people will probably add factions for anything they can think of. And they fixed the ship generation so the ai made ships actually look good
The game is becoming really good now

Experience, mostly
Each weapon has a predetermined role in its tooltip, so use that to guide you. The number one rule you should follow is that your weapon flux should never exceed your ship's vent at least not by a lot.
Forgot pic
die AI whore
I had so much fun naming everyone then giving a fitting name for their ships
And forming an all girls fleet
experience
also know that there are different types of damage and single shot high damage weapons are better at penetrating armor
A good rule of thumb is to fill most of your slots with ballistics to overload shields, and then a big "fuck you" high explosive to deal with armor.
The AI is pretty godly at flux management, so constant ballistic DPS is not very good, I found burst damage to be very effective, you could even disable a few weapons in order to lure the AI in, and then overload them.

Where do I upload them?

I don't remember what mods I used anymore
I modded the game last year and never touched the modlist again

It's basically one of the mods that adds more portraits but I edited it to include some 40k girls
I don't know how to make it so you can only have the 40k girls
HMI
pic related
Next ones v1 release so probably next January.
>I don't know how to make it so you can only have the 40k girls
I edited the degenerate portrait pack so it replaces all vanilla and mod portraits, quite crudely. First of all there is a .faction file the mod modifies in the mods\portraitmod\data\world folder.
You have to make on for each faction you want to replace. Inside is an import function for portraits one for male and one for female. You can add portraits and their folder inside here so they get loaded into the game for this faction. Most mods leave one of the two empty but that leads to missing/black portraits ingame. So add the portraits you want to both genders.
If the portraits have the same name as vanilla portraits you will replace them, if they have unique names they will be added along vanilla. You can either directly replace the vanilla portraits inside the normal graphics folder by modportraits or override them for each faction in the .faction file.
Those look a lot less gold than I remember.

Damn, this looks actually pretty great. How close to a full game is it? Like Starsector or is it more like your typical early access (read: alpha) game?
Actually so much fun to fuck with pirates with this thing. Also,
>faction
Blackrock Drive Yards
>ship
Asura
The game is pretty complete at this point, it leaves early access like this month
It's not complete at all the mid to late game still needs another year or two of development.
They literally just added that two-three patches ago, the biggest problem with the game was the fact that people used to be able to get super weapons due to RNG drops being fucked, now that they nerfed that shit, it's actually a game now in addition to the new shit they added like encounters.
>Asura
Based, I got the Hullmod Expansion mod and made this nasty motherfucker.
wait when was this? I just made a new game a week ago and the maelstrom is still probably the best ship in the game
Sounds a lot like Starsector lol. Guess I'll give it a pirate and see for myself
Is there a hard limit to how many ships you can have in your fleet?
If yes, does that mean you can't just swarm the enemy with smaller ships?
>TFW just got Timeless blueprint
its 25 by default i think, but you can literally just change a number in a file and have it be anything, I've even done 100 before
Doesn't matter when you're stylin on everyone.
>wait when was this?
They had several excellent destroyer and light cruiser setups around 3 years ago or so. I can't really comment on their large ships because I don't enjoy slow ships no matter how powerful they are.
>maelstrom
>slow
Now that you mention it I do recall this happening, pretty much stopped bringing the small ships with me
I believe 30's the default hard-cap.
There's also a combat soft-cap which is based on fleet size. The soft-cap gives a deployment advantage to the larger fleet.
Both can be edited in the games files.
There's something cathartic about having your giant, lowtech unshielded behemoths obliterating fleets from long range with railgun broadsides. That being said, the Butterfly destroyer is a very fun high-tech ship to pilot with ext mags on its revolver lasers.
>workshop ships allowing me to do stuff like have a Gundam fleet with mobile suit fighters that I could control if I wanted
WHAT
Okay thanks. Do you have anything to say about energy weps or should I just stick to cheap ballistics for now?
for me, it's the gryphon
special mentions to the tempest and odyssey
i was never specially invested with any of the factions, but probably hegemony since i tend to befriend them just from missions or the sindrian diktat only because their flag looks cool
Any mods add a decent low-tech missile boat that isn't capital sized?
It's not.
I don't really bother with them, beyond point defense duty, until I get something like a Paragon Blueprint and slap 4 Tachyon Lances on them, but by that point you've already won the game.
You could try to do a Safety Overriden Sunder with Autopulse if you're based, or a Plasma Canon if you're mega based.
Yuri Corp
Do you have the latest version before it got nuked from the forums?
>got nuked from the forums
How'd it get nuked? Was the author spamming cp/gore?
Mod community drama, Starsectors filled with it. If you have it can you please upload it?
I just recently deleted my mods folder because they might have been outdated.
I'm not at home right now, if the thread's still up in a couple of hours I'll post a link to it. I don't know if my current version is the latest one though.
I appreciate that, thanks.
Some drama with another modder.
I can upload my file when I get home later, I'm not sure what version I have though.
Check /vg/'s indie general if the thread is archived. I'll post it there.
behold
/ssg/ is dead but post it on the Indie general.
Nice, I'm going to install the mod now thanks user
is this the best space trading and combat sim on the market? hows it compare to endless sky?
Combat is better than in any similar game I've played so far. Trading is very simplistic but I don't think anything remotely recent handles it better.
Haven't played Endless Sky.
Which mods are the two smol carriers from? Their designs look very nice.
I recall something about ILLEGAL MODS or other crap
Feels bad playing this on an AMD card. About the only fix is modding in battle speed up but it's still lame. No I don't want to install linux ffs.
both are from dassault mikoyan mod, white one is the faction ship, bottom one is REDACTED
My custom ship
darn im way more into the trading aspect than the combat do you have any recommendations?
While some mods are pretty cool the modding community on the forums is probably the worst one I seen so far
Can this faggot just put his game on steam already
What's there to do once you're earning 500k+ a month from colonies and have a rape fleet at your disposal?
>one ship crashed into another
If it's space trading you want, you need the X-series.
any specific one?
New update fucking when? It's been a year. I checked Alex's twitter but there's nothing promising there except some weird effects.
Pirates didn't have a good carrier so I stripped all the cargo holdings and strapped a fucking Mora to the Atlas
3 is good. Don't know what the current consensus about 4 is, probably bad. Avoid Rebirth
Why havent you joined the best faction yet Yas Forums?
My only issue with starsector is how game designed in a way that makes use of high tech much more beneficial for player than other design schools, because of how severely enemy generally outnumbers you. You are usually have to kill very large amount of shit during the fight. If you're shield-based and not reliant on missiles to deal burst damage, you are free to fight for as long as CR allows, but if you fly low tech/armor focused, each encounter costs you much more resources and you're gradually lose much of your offense and defense alike. It's manageable if you have Onslaught, but try fighting those multiple capitals late game bounties on something smaller and you're up for very bad experience.
Also armor in this game sucks in general because things like HI laser or reaper torpedoes exist, and very wide variety of ships can fit them.
>tfw new update will drop and no one will port over the dead mods dropped by their drama queen creators
Small indie studio, no bitching
Thanks.

Excuse me sweaty, not diverse enough
I actually managed to come home sooner than expected, here is the mod:
mega.nz
Not bad, post the files for it? I don't know anything about kitbashing or modding, does it need to be tagged for factions to incorporate them into their fleets?
>Astral with plasma torpedo bombers from BRDY mod
How is this legal
Thanks, but that seems to be 4.0, I was hoping I could find 4.2.
Yeah. Nothing too detailed but you can make custom mobile suit fighters using straight up Gundam ships provides you or someone else made them yourselves. I’ve gone up against straight up Star Wars ships on mine before on a server. Even though it’s a voxel game you can make some pretty accurate ships

I somehow reached level 103.
Right now I'm trying to destroy Hegemony, those AI hating fuckers.
But all there's left of them are their tier7+ stations. Those mines kill my fleet before I've destroyed half of the station.
How to deal with them?
That's insane if you did that without the sane leveling mod.
If you want mods that spice up the game more than just by adding a faction I would recommend
>HMI for the 4 unique systems it adds with threats like nanite swarms
>Dassault for Blade Breakers as an endgame challenge
>Arsenal Expansion for 9th Battlegroup
>Varya's Sector
>Tahlan for Legio
>Secrets of the Frontier for the additions to the battle layer
Adding engines to planets and construct sectors of your own when?
>How to deal with them?
A cheeky Paragon+Bombers combo, do you have NGO? That faction has an absolutely brutal bomber, that also works as a fighter.
In Starsector 2: The Dominion Strikes Back
>HMI
What's that?
I think I installed some extra levels mod. Probably the one you're talking about.
Hmm yeah bomber's might be the key. I'll refit my fleet just for stations.
No NGO.
hey hey people
>But all there's left of them are their tier7+ stations. Those mines kill my fleet before I've destroyed half of the station.
>How to deal with them?
either equip tons of PD or tons of PD foghters in your fleet, maybe consider adding hangars to vulnerable ships. Sparks used to be the standard for fighter PD, but after the nerf some mod fighters might be the better choice
I want to like the Legio Infernalis but their sieges are pretty ridiculous, shitting out those massive fleets. I let them run wild for about 10 cycles and they decivilized a good chunk of planets.
I feel having a ton of fighters on your fleet will just make them touch mines instantly blowing them up
Supposedly its been fixed in the latest hotfix. Currently they seem work as a decent replacement for the aggressive boss faction niche that Knights Templar used to fill
Is NGO even getting updates any more?
What ever happened to those anyways? Knights Templar and Dynasector was popular mods but never got updated.
Doubtful, it's no longer available in the forums because the modder made some posts supporting nazis or something.
Knight's Templar became a spaghetti code mess that doesn't work in the latest version, whilst stuff like Dynasector and Starsector+ became irrelevant with the campaign features added to the vanilla game. Even then all the ship additions and IBB from + are available as separate mods
As a new player, are there any quintessential mods I should have, or just play vanilla?
What are some other mods to jump into after a vanilla playthrough?
If youre new, you should just get familiar with Vanilla before you even start looking at other content mods or there will be way too much stuff for you to get familiar with at once
Just play vanilla if you're new, and add in faction mods + nexerellin later.
is there some sort of endgame besides nuking everybody else into oblivion?
then it will only be me
and the pirates I guess
>spend 20min refitting entire fleet
>save
>stuck on 100%
>cpu on full load
>starsector has overlay priority on the screen so I can't do anything else
Amazing.
Cool, thanks lads.
when was the last update?
Yuri ships are pretty fun, having a whole fleet with their flashy weapons is also a good way to tank your fps.
Set task manager to always on top user
I've dumped about 20 hours into the Sseth version and I'm picking it up on this paycheck just to support the devs, has there been any major updates between them and what should I expect to see new?
The Sseth version is the current one, it usually takes the dev months or years between major updates.
I JUST WANT TO SAVE AAAAAAA
I'm sorry user, it's time to be bread.
this ship my favorite, sadly i am not fan capital ship
Paragons with anti-armor weapons. It has fortress shield so there's little use for kinetic damage, just knock out revolving parts and then main modules.
2 Astrals with full remnant bombers shits on any station without breaking a sweat
Tachyon lance is such a bullshit weapon even its alternatives from overall overtuned mods like Neutrino or DME turn out to be worse because they don't pierce shields.
Maybe only thing balancing it is scarcity because they are never sold on market and usually you have to go to red beacon and rip them out of battleships there.
i gave myself remnant ships theyre really cool
Post fleets.
You have a couple of unspent ordnance points there user
Trading per se is kinda shit in Starsector.
The legit market has a huge tarrif on it, and the prices for goods are pro-rated AS YOU SELL THEM. So you never, ever get what you thought you would.
There are two types of trading mission though.
Market Requests that you get as you fly around near populated sectors. These require you to go and buy the item in question and bring it to that system. But usually pay 2-3x the base market value for the item.
And Bar Requests, which you find at the dockside bar on occasion. These are more profitable, as they give you the items in question, and pay out similarly to System Requests. Though, they can be a bit hard to find sometimes. And if the bar is hosting two of them, accepting one will cause the other to disappear. Though you can pick up multiples from different planets if you wish.
Both scale according to your fleet's cargo holds.
Because I already have the blueprints for the rape-donut.
... Though I am tempted by robot-cat-girls I admit.
Starsector sucks after you figure out how shitty the simulation is
