My girlfriend is pregnant with our child and she has 3 young kids from a previous marriage, all under the age of 8. She married young and her husband ended up being a piece of shit and cheated on her, so she divorced him.
I never really wanted kids, but here we are. I was raised a certain way which made me a considerate person. I want the same for these kids but they are out of control, some of which is normal, some of which I worry about.
It’s impossible for find non-cycles parenting advice online, as it has become so political. Generally speaking, what is your approach as a parent that has worked for you?

Despite being stubborn and out of control, children subconsciously desire discipline and order. Seeing as their biological father is not in the picture, it is up to you to bring structure in to their lives. Be stern but fair. Try and not always agree with your girlfriend's parenting techniques, so as to show them you are not under her control.
