I don't remember the name of it but there's a documentary about how NGOs actually keep Africa in poverty by making it impossible for African-owned businesses to compete and sell their products, keeping Africa in a perpetual state of reliance on handouts. Very useful for arguing against foreign aid and immigration with progressives.

It mainly focuses on Africa but also Haiti since the earthquake was more recent there. Quick rundown: >NGOs have an interest to keep nations in poverty since it keeps them in business >NGOs give out food and infrastructure for free >Local farmers and businesses cannot compete with free, meaning their economies don't develop, and in many cases actually get worse >Several interviews with business owners where they practically BEG westerners to stop giving handouts. What they need is actual entry into global markets and expanded property rights, not handouts The doc doesn't touch on this but when you combine this with emigration of (relatively) high-skill/educated people to the west (causes brain-drain) you get a situation of endless impoverishment.

I guess it's justified by the reason that it was intended as an anti-colonization piece (british), although the message it ends giving is the complete opposite. This one + Empire of Dust are perfect for a one-evening African nightmare marathon.
