Cattle/Oxen are the only answer really. Milk, meat, and most importantly the beast of burden which pulled the plow. Horses, sheep, dogs, can't compare.

chickens are the most easy source of food worldwide, don't require too much space or food, through ages they have been mentioned in books, their eggs can be used even in medicine, they can live everywhere, yes, including the arctic and antarctic (researchers have brought some with them for shit and giggles/food) and some have even gone to space. chickens are the perfect animal.
