Gladny volk podšel k staromu psu i rěkl: «Dragy prijatelju, jesm taky gladny, že ne mogu spati. Ale ty jesi veliky i tolsty. Kde dostavaješ svoju jedu? Kde živeš? Kde ješ?»
«Ja jesm sluga svojego gospodara», odgovoril pes. «Služu gospodara, strěguči jegov dom. Zato moj gospodar davaje mi toliko jedy, koliko hoču.»
Na čto volk govoril: «Ja živu velmi bědno. Denj i noč ja bludžu po lěsah i poljah, a ne nahodžu ničto do jedenja dlja ženy i dětij. Tako ne mogu žiti dolžeje. Moja žena i moje děti umirajut od glada. Zato ja takože budu sluga ljudij i budu strěgti jihne domy.»
Pes i volk zajedno poběgli črěz lěsy do doma psa. Naglo volk uviděl pesju šiju. Udivjeny, on rěkl: «Vidžu, že na tvojej šiji nemaje vlasov. Imajut li vsi psi šije bez vlasov?»
«Ne», odgovoril pes. «Ne vsi psi. Ale kogda jest denj, ja nošu verigu. V tečenju dnja ležu prěd domom gospodara na verigě. Verigy sut želězne, a želězo jest tvrdo. Iz toj pričiny ne imaju vlasy na šiji. Ale nočju jesm svobodny. V noči bludžu vesde, kde hoču.»
«Dragy brate», volk govoril psu. «Glad jest težky, ale veriga jest težejša. Ne nošu verigu i ne budu nositi verigu. Lučše, da byhmo s ženoju i dětami umrěli iz glada. Běži do svojego gospodara sam. Lučše byti gladny neželi tolsty; lučše byti svobodny neželi nositi verigu. Sbogom.»

I speak Czech and a little bit of Serbocroatian and I understood that.

The more I read the text, the more it reads like a mixture of Slovenian and Polish.

Just learn Russian. it's not like other slavs have any literature worth reading, their languages are therefore redundant.
