For the "issa hoax" crowd the government couldn't have made a "correct" move. If they'd done nothing, it would be "our government has failed us again and our healthcare system has ground to a halt as a result, this is why central government is bad" meanwhile when governments DO take action to contain things it's "see the virus isn't actually real because nobody's dying."

The logical fuckup here is the failure to understand that the reason the virus looks less bad than predicted is BECAUSE the measures taken have worked. If we had NOT locked down and the virus turned out to not be bad, then I'd concede that the initial predictions were overblown. But that's not what happened. Extreme measures were taken, therefor the virus spread has been slowed.

As lockdowns are lifted, spread will trend back up proportionally. The good news is that in many areas a large enough % of the population has had it and recovered that it shouldn't matter as much.

The economic thing is another issue. If the whole thing weren't built on a house of cards (corporate debt) then a v-recovery would happen. But since the whole thing is incredibly unsustainable we've triggered a recession.

I'm very libertarian and I'm very worried about the overreach that has happened, but none of it was illogical from the standpoint of elected officials trying to be cautious in the face of a pandemic situation with a lot of unknown variables.
