This is probably the only post in the thread worth exploring more OP. Basically Gaddafi wanted a new currency that was backed by gold. He wanted other nations that were selling oil to transition away from the US dollar. This would have threatened the petrodollar and US hegemony (which let's be honest is quickly declining anyway), so he had to be dealt with. Gaddafi has massive reserves of gold and if you look online Wikileaks released a whole thread of emails between Hilary Clinton and some of her aides and the subject was "Gaddafi's Gold." Worth reading.
