Possibly the nuclear industry is more totalitarian about safety than the oil industry, but probably not anyone else. Oil price drops and safety guys start scrambling like everyone else in the company, sending out memos that make them look like they’re essential and can’t be considered for the chopping block when the layoff crew comes around. Most commercially available masks are nothing more than a band-aid solution for COVID, since its small enough to pass through them anyways.

However, the CDC specifically said that they weren't necessary, and this is isn't true because they at least slow the spread of the virus, somewhat, at least when we consider Taiwan and HK, who were on it immediately and have contained the virus much more efficiently.

Since we decided not to immediately cut off trade and flights with China its all a moot point anyways, since the virus was guaranteed to spread anyways. IMO the lackluster response to the virus intentional, since once the bodies start piling up in the streets, people will begin demanding even more draconian restrictions be placed upon them to prevent the spread of the virus.
