Growing up I was constantly labeled “acting white” by my peers and classmates. Reading articulately, participating in class, having interests beyond the stereotypical bullshit. One of the major problems in my community is this idea that acting in anyway beyond the status quo labels you an outsider. It’s not genetics or racism, it’s this idea that certain behaviors are cool and promoted.
If the black community focused on truly raising our youth with role models that aren’t stereotypical I think you’d see changes over generations.

Malcolm's error was believing that white people respect each other, and that meant that the entree to equality was therefore to secure respect from whites by engaging in open belligerence. And in a 1960's context, that could actually work - for a short period of time. But over longer time frames it gives you "keepin it real" and other one-way tickets to Skid Row, and blacks as a whole have bought those tickets in the years since.
