The thing is, we don't know how much of an effect it's having. Sweden isn't taking any measures officially. Are it's numbers higher than other nordic countries? yes. Are their hospitals overwhelmed? Not even close. You could multiply the NYC numbers by several times before you could say it's a problem. You do know what the lockdown is for, right? To prevent hospitals from being overrun because they had no idea of the potential devastation that this virus could cause. Turns out, it's not as bad as they thought, thus the logical thing to do is to start opening things up on a week to week basis, constantly monitoring hospital capacity. If it's LOOKING like the hospitals are going to be near capacity soon, then we stop with easing the restrictions, and by the time that happens, most people would probably be fine with the restrictions in place (which would probably be to wear masks in public and banning very large events).
Keeping things locked down right now makes zero sense. It's a simple cost benefit analysis.
