Transactions make anything "valuable". Gold has some features that made it useful. It lasts much longer than other materials, it is in "limited supply" until space mines open up, and we still use it for processed tools and weapons. These reasons are why it is still used for barter in other countries and why many seek its return. Its not perfect in my opinion. I just use it like a temporary ladder when dumbos debts start going out of control(personal and govt).

It's been a trusted means of exchange for thousands of years. All FIAT currencies have failed over time. You can always find a buyer for gold.
Sure there are plenty of valid points that gold serves no purpose DURING a shtf situation, but afterwards, when business commences and currencies are fucked, gold will be the main money used between governments and big business.

here are my 'investments'
1) health
4 physical tests a year that i gotta pass (very similar to what the army has around the world, not talking about obese "armies" where 90% never saw combat) so it is not too intense, a minimum of 3 workouts a week and quality diet does the trick
literally nothing will work for you if you are weak, pathetic, obese or otherwise health compromised.. i would likely enjoy looting your gold lmao if thats all you did and have poor health
2) technical background (formal education, work experience, doesnt matter) and equipment (minimum basic machining tools)
this is absolutely essential, see why below
you will die without it, you simply can not compete
3) actual guns
"gun" in military context is towed, self propelled and crew served, i am talking about actual guns, small arms retards and their civilianized non auto pidgeon calibers are all considered unarmed
while i still lack guns, light man portable outdated 30mm mortars and 12.7mm machineguns are obtainable (in minecraft ofcourse, irl would be illegal id never own such things :DDD) easily enough, and same goes for a 30mm smooth bore direct fire fieldgun or cannon with panoramic sights for hardened/light armored/tracked vehicles
anti air guns are especially interesting for soft targets and urban areas, cluster munitions designed to fill cubic meters of air full of lead in seconds really seem ideal for all purposes
4) armored vehicle components
while owning one is illegal, bulldozer multifuel/petrodiesel engine isnt for example, carrying out urban raids even against civilians
i think i will hit the post limit before writting it all out but basically i dont even get to precious metals, while the list is full of industrial application materials, medical stuff, squad/crew personalities ive seek out and hang out with just in case of this, etc
