They’re good for Slavs. It keeps them off the streets, and the walls are surprisingly sturdy, so when the occupants have drunken fistfights nothing breaks. Plus, they have no gardens, which is good for the Slav, as they can concentrate on their work rather than confusing and advanced stuff like gardening.

As someone who lived in one: the apartment itself is not that bad. The people living in it, are, well. Working-class. The apartments are really small though, so I don't recommend them for a family of 4 or above. Now, not all commie blocks are made the same, some are larger, some are smaller. Some early models, usually found in the USSR and Romania, didn't even have a bathroom in all apartments, I've never seen one such as that here, though. One thing to keep in mind though is that these are not rent houses. You can do pretty much whatever the fuck you want on the inside unless it endangers the building's integrity. So aside from the size factor, it's entirely up to you how cozy you make it.

You don't yell "no solicitors!" every time your atusim attacks when you see your ups arriving.
You don't fear the chance of getting robbed.
You don't break your back in your old age in cleaning everything.
You have neighbours who you can sue for almost everything.
You don't have dogs and cats = no additinal risk of catching diseases plus no additional monthly expenses.
You can go down "by the block" and sit down on the multiple benches and communicate with the people that live in the area every afternoon at around 6 during summer (this is a huge plus if you're raising kids - they can play with other kids and form early friendships)

That's not even sligtly true.
If you would do that neighbours would probably want to kick you out and could.
And everything outside of each flat is sort of clean because people in commieblocks have sort of "service" where each flat cleans outside of flat. There is a rotation of who does it.
Yeah there's lots of greenery around commieblocks, playgrounds etc.

In USSR, these were built out of necessity to quickly accommodate large amounts of people displaced by revolution, the two world wars, and industrialisation. Before that the majority of people in Russia were mostly home owning peasants. The people who lived there were Soviet “middle” and working class. Today these areas are mostly deprived and reserved for working class people and asocial groups.

Depends on a lot of things; population density, access to parks and green areas, urban forestry. I come from New Belgrade in Serbia which is essentially a district of the city composed entirely of blocks. the architecture and urban planning of the blocks vary but the most pleasant ones to live are the blocks with the shorter buildings immediate access to green space.

Communist style blocks can work as long as you don't build too high, too dense and provide immediate access to nature.

I lived in one of the earliest blocks made(50's)in Prague . It made it to in local art history books and it was functional -open spaces and lift and central heat.what more does a pleb want from govt?
