Now that we have very good reason to believe 10-20% of the country has been infected, we know the death rate is more in line with the seasonal flu, especially when you consider death counts have almost certainly been inflated by labeling everything a COVID death. We are just realizing that it might also cause strokes and hearth failures. So, the number of deaths are probably underestimates.
In addition, it is a new virus that we don't really understand. We do not want it to spread. We should contain it. Mostly because some risks are unknown.

Really the reason I think the left has glommed on to the Covid Cult is because they only cared about a handful of things 1) Going on unemployment and making more money for doing nothing 2) making Trump look bad and 3) pushing communism.
