Kavanaugh wrote a concurrence, but said the SCOTUS should use 2A cases on the docket to make sure states apply Heller correctly. scotusblog.com/2018/07/judge-kavanaugh-and-the-second-amendment/ Then, every single one of these cases were distributed for Friday's conference. Assault weapons bans from Il and MA, may-issue laws from NJ and MD among them. Pic related. I am optimistic these cases will be heard and decided rightly. One of those cases, off the dome i think its Worman v Healey, is the Massachusets AWB. To me, it seems most likely that this is the case they hear. If the case was heard, and the AWB struck down, this would strike down CT's AWB also, yes. It is not the one under direct review, however. I think this is good news.
I believe, personally, enough judges are on the pro-gun record, particularly Kav, particularly in light of his concurrence today, that it is very good news.
