I truly believe this was because we have elevated science to become our new religion. Because science is a fragmented field, and scientists are hyper-specialized individuals that lack a general oversight, it caused a panick reaction that was left unchecked... no built in fail-safes if you will.
This was the first major scientific chimp-out we have ever witnessed. And it only costed our economies. This is what you get when science starts dictating te political agenda. This is what you get when science thinks it can lay claims on human spirituality.
Science should gtfo and focus itself on technology again. Religion should focus itself on the humanities again. And let politicians manage society.
