For a long time, the simple act of birthing babies and running a home was as dangerous, painful and involved as the things you have listed.
Women used to have something like a 10% chance of dying in childbirth, and it was painful as fuck. Women also spent most of their lives pregnant/nursing. And once they had the kid, unless they were wealthy, they were back to doing the work of running the home: keeping a fire going, sourcing and preparing food, washing clothes/bodies in a river, disposing waste, chores, etc.
Until modern times all that shit was hard as fuck, and it was what kept society going. It is certainly an achievement in my book. And now that nothing in life takes work, people (men and women alike) are generally directionless and unfulfilled.
