US is divided politically, not geographically. Blakanization is a good outcome, because it means political and geographic divisions coincide.

I completely agree, I just find it awful that we can’t see more cooperation more between different Republican regions.

The division is not by state lines. It's within a society. It's very similar to Germany post WW1 and like Russia post WW1. In Russia communists won and forced communism on the rest of the country. In Germany, eventually NatSoc won and forced NatSoc on everyone. Both involved purges. It's always the most crazy side that wins, and that side can go further than their enemies. I would bet on progressives winning. They are too crazy and won't stop at anything. You always have to bet on crazy.

Kentucky is working with the Midwest because their current governor is Democratic. Long term, though, Kentucky is unlikely to be sufficiently moderate to really fit in with the others.

It feels great understanding Natural barriers like Mountain Ranges and Rivers.

The plains states will eventually demand that water be piped from the Great Lakes to them. The states that actually border the lakes and the Province of Ontario, who are all signatories of the Great Lakes Compact, will refuse. It's not a workable situation.

These boundaries are deliberately angled to form these state lines. Balkanization will transcend these boundaries, and overlaps will happen.

Everyone west of the mississippi would need to ally Colorado since all the rivers start there. Colorado would just dam every river and watch everyone around them burn. Plus it would be extremely difficult to take Colorado because of the mountains.
