Arguably, would the economy be better off with universal basic income?

I was thinking, yesterday, about the merits and drawbacks of a universal basic income. I understand that some people would be lazy sacks of shit and not contribute to the work-force with an income that allows them to merely survive with a second-class roof over their head and par food in their bellies; however, if it is the case that human-beings are productive by nature, wouldn't the economy, and especially the workforce, thrive based on the need for businesses, companies, and corporations' to more effectively compete for labor and human resources? If nobody had to worry whether or not they would have food in their bellies, a roof over their head, and whatever medical help they need merely to survive, wouldn't the workforce be more inclined to bargain the value of their jobs? We already see that there are a ton of freeloaders already and the matter of fact is we, as a society, over-produce. We over-consume too but with automation and the size of the workforce we really don't need so many people cucking for minimum wage, competing among themselves for a shit-tier retail job. I'm not an economist, so I'm probably not qualified but I'd like to hear some second opinions on this.

I personally can't wait to drop out entirely in your world.

Of course some people will drop out entirely. But all they'll have is food shelter and hospitals. No luxuries unless you go work! I figure human nature would come into play and people would start being productive. But who knows, maybe I'm wrong.

I make a decent income now and have no desire for luxuries. monthy expenses are under 1k. if the gov gave me that I'd drop out.

Do you believe that this would be the nature of the majority, or do you believe that you, and a minority, are too apathetic to do any sort of productive task? Maybe I'm the minority but this pandemic has made it clear to me that I cannot stand to be a non-producing neet. It's just not fun and not challenging. Maybe I overestimate human nature.

> Do you believe that this would be the nature of the majority
to be clear, it isn't apathy. it's revolt

to be clear, what are you revolting to, exactly? Is it the injustice in taxing working people and entrepreneurs so that people who do no work can survive?

> what are you revolting to, exactly
the whole damn thing.. existence maybe, idk

Where I live UBI would have to be at least 3000 a month for people to be able to completely drop out unless they're being supported
In Alaska, which has Ubi, there were absolutely people who dropped out but it didn't have a noticible effect on the workforce.
Entry-level jobs are disappearing anyway. With Ubi people would be able to get training and education for higher-paying more specialized jobs, which is far more utopian than a federal jobs garuntee

Huh... good luck I guess
