I remember the Pizzagate segment on Colbert back in 2016/2017 and me and my mom both immediately noticed how terrified he was in the clip. Like he was guilty of something. Then I saw the picture of him with Podesta and it made complete sense.

Maybe I was naive at the time but it seemed like a pretty well rounded show, I just remember him being afraid of bees and even Samantha Bee was alright when they'd mock some dopey store owner or something, albeit it with chopped footage.
