What books or oral traditions do they have access to? I feel like we’re kept in the dark about the nature of our reality.
Because they are in a "simulation". Everything is a lie. Not a computer simulation. The reality that the majority of the ruling class believes in is in fact a lie. They are spoon-fed false data that leads them to believe that they are not oppressing the masses. The Shadow Government is creating artificial scarcity to control the masses.

There has been a tradition passed down through the elite for many generations regarding a spiritual system the masses aren't privy too. There are likely elements of Gnosticism and simulation theory in what they believe, as well as other religious traditions, but it is unique. And for some reason a lot of them think it's legit.

Group conformity is much more important for humans than need for factual accuracy, logical consistency, etc. So, if the elites have these retarded cultish secret societies which larp as continuations of ancient hermetic orders, though they were actually created by a few conmen like Crowley, Blavatsky, and LaVey, they will believe what they're told. Maybe some of them will consider it ironic, but still.
Those who don't understand the foundations and tiers of knowledge are easily swayed, often by others who don't understand the foundations of knowledge themselves (or in some case those actively deceive).

They use statistical arguments, which should be filtered through morality/pragmatism/logic and semantics, to make generalizations about the nature of the universe. But if you use your brain for half a second, you should immediately see that you cannot pull generalizations down from the top of the pyramid of knowledge to into their broader categories. Simulation theory makes a logical/pragmatic argument to rationalize about the nature of our universe. It's no different than using an argument about your own subjective experience to generalize about the experience of every being (objective).
The truth of the matter is that simulation theory doesn't mean jack shit. It's pushed by pseudo-intellectuals who think that they can make broad generalizations about the nature of our universe via a statistical argument (not even statistical observation mind you). It's pervasive because it's a great acid test for what kind of epistemological shortcomings the general populous is easily subverted by.

One book about the mystical history of Freemasonry I find absolutely fascinating is Arcane Schools by John Yarker, it’s a very dense and esoteric read but touches on all sorts of topics such as Aryans, sects and Arcane Christianity. It ties many things together if it is at all true.
Gnosticism is true and was the religion taught by Jesus. The Elites are not Gnostics: they are Yahwists, worshiping the demiurge who is Yahweh/Satan.
There are certain things held in common between Gnosticism and what the elites believe. The core model of the relationship between man, the world, and God is fundamentally the same. What sets the two systems apart is their GOALS. Gnostics seek liberation of sentient beings from this world. The elites, on the other hand, seek to keep all sentient beings bound here to feed Yahweh, and worship Yahweh with full knowledge that he is not really God.
So to summarize, same core belief, but polar opposite GOALS.
