I find it interesting that Australia and New Zealand are so prideful over things that happened during ww1 when most burgers have no idea when america even fought in ww1. Its a day the remember the sacrifice people made for the country you mong. Its not a celebration but an acknowledgement of Aussies and kiwis that fought in wars on behalf of Australia/the empire.
It was Australia first war as a sovereign state. It had a lot to do with building a national identity of a country about 16yrs old at the time. Also hijacked with an enormous amount of propaganda but it’s what was needed at the time.
