According to wiki, total biomass on earth is estimated to be 550 billion tons and yearly production is 100 billion tons a year.
Crude oil used in a year are (if my rough math is right) is about 7.5 billion tons.
So if the crude oil is 10s or 100s of millions of years old, what you're saying isn't too hard to imagine.
