It was such a shit show, too--each branch was allowed to request an exemption to the rule change, and the Marines were the only branch that conducted tests on the efficacy of women in ground combat roles rather than just cucking out and accepting the change outright (in fairness, the USAF and USN don't have ground combat roles outside of spec ops anyway, and there's 0 chance that a female would ever be able to pass one of those). As you mentioned, they found mixed units performed significantly worse than all-male units. Not just that, but women suffered injuries at FAR higher rates and many of them didn't even make it through the testing period, and there was a lot of word on the grapevine that morale was terrible, the men were fighting over the women, etc. Lastly, not a SINGLE woman was able to pass the USMC's infantry officer course, and they flunked through the enlisted infantry course (something men pass at a ~95% rate) at an absolutely abysmal rate.
Ultimately, the Marines presented these findings, requested an exemption, and the SECNAV told them to fuck off and that they were "biased against women". He later admitted he never even read their report.
At the very least, the Army has wisened up and are now implementing a physical fitness test that women effectively cannot complete, but not before they led the cuck-charge of letting women in combat roles in the first place by rigging Ranger School to allow a bunch of them to pass. To my understanding, the process of women making it into ground combat units has been largely self regulating. Most don't make it to them in the first place, and those that do tend to scrape by the minimum standards and either get kicked out or relegated to HQ.
