Under federal regulation, farmers must follow very strict food production, transportation and storage standards. No step of this chain of production to distribution is cheap, either. It's not as simple as dropping a potato in a fedex box and shipping it to people who need it, there is a cost involved, which is why they are dumping the product instead of paying the money to ship and store the wasted product. But once again, the braindead socialist (a fucking leaf for that matter) can't grasp the fact that distribution of goods is more than "You have many thing, you give to people who do not have many thing"

Because I sincerely doubt the farmers made any kind of announcement that people could come take the potatoes. They're dumping them to keep the prices per pound high. They could have easily sold the to a processing plant that could process them into frozen and freeze dried goods. But nope. They want that price to stay high.

Supply and demand. If there are less potatoes available they can keep the prices high. If there is a surplus of potatoes, they must lower the price in order to sell them. Rather than reducing their prices to move their stock, these nigger framers are just dumping the excess product to keep supply in check with demand.
