I've been think a lot about age of consent laws after a stupid arguement.
TL;DR A lead faggot says anything under 18 is pedo because anyone under 18 cannot consent nor can they sign contracts. He also constantly shifted the goal posts whenever I would try to corner him with morally relativistic arguments like "muh social norms" or brain development. My point was anyone 16-18 should be able to consent to this.
My response was that brain development doesn't stop until 25 for women, should we change it to 25?
So he changed to contracts. My response was that who has money at 16? But sure, you got me there. Then again adulthood is given in phases. A car at 16, voting rights at 18, drinking at 21. If anything I'd argue that its dumb to have inconsistent laws.
Then he shifts to 16 year olds dont understand what they're doing. My response was an obvious wtf are you talking about. 16-18 year olds are sluts. We've had health class since 5th grade. No chick is looking at a dick like wtf is this.
Then turns to well okay, but only for close in age laws aka romeo and juliet laws. Imo, why have those laws if the parties aren't able to consent in the first place from his previous argument. Seems inconsistent in laws to me.

The argument that people under 18 can't consent because they can't sign contracts is absolutely moronic. It's an entirely relative thing in the first place, if we allow people to sign contracts when their 13 does that mean that the age of consent should be shifted to 13 as well? Probably not.
On the other hand: 1. Women are generally dumb and make poor choices when it comes to sexual partners. The argument about changing it to 25 has a lot of merit. 2. Society allows people to behave and act like children a lot longer, with far less consequences than ever before. I think if we lived in a society that was a little less coddling and a little bit harder on degeneracy + pushed people to mature/grow up sooner, you could easily make the argument that the age of consent could be lowered.
