I've been think a lot about age of consent laws after a stupid arguement.
TL;DR A lead faggot says anything under 18 is pedo because anyone under 18 cannot consent nor can they sign contracts. He also constantly shifted the goal posts whenever I would try to corner him with morally relativistic arguments like "muh social norms" or brain development. My point was anyone 16-18 should be able to consent to this.
My response was that brain development doesn't stop until 25 for women, should we change it to 25?
So he changed to contracts. My response was that who has money at 16? But sure, you got me there. Then again adulthood is given in phases. A car at 16, voting rights at 18, drinking at 21. If anything I'd argue that its dumb to have inconsistent laws.
Then he shifts to 16 year olds dont understand what they're doing. My response was an obvious wtf are you talking about. 16-18 year olds are sluts. We've had health class since 5th grade. No chick is looking at a dick like wtf is this.
Then turns to well okay, but only for close in age laws aka romeo and juliet laws. Imo, why have those laws if the parties aren't able to consent in the first place from his previous argument. Seems inconsistent in laws to me.

It's an entirely relative thing in the first place, if we allow people to sign contracts when their 13 does that mean that the age of consent should be shifted to 13 as well? Probably not.
On the other hand: 1. Women are generally dumb and make poor choices when it comes to sexual partners. The argument about changing it to 25 has a lot of merit. 2. Society allows people to behave and act like children a lot longer, with far less consequences than ever before. I think if we lived in a society that was a little less coddling and a little bit harder on degeneracy + pushed people to mature/grow up sooner, you could easily make the argument that the age of consent could be lowered.

Any time a law involves children/minors, all logic and common sense are thrown out the window. Any attempt to argue against said law will been seen as an attack on the children it is suppose to be protecting, never mind if the law itself attacks the children. For more of human history (millions of years) there was no such thing as age of consent. Even ancient civilizations (ancient Greeks, ancient Egyptians, Mesopotamians, etc) had no age of consent.
Romans operated by the law that women were property and could only have one owner at a time. They were owned by their father until their father gave them away to a husband. Romans introduced the first age of consent law when they realized some fathers were selling 1- and 2-year old daughters for fast cash. They said that until a woman was 12, she wasn't ready for marriage.
Throughout the next 3000 years age of consent varied from non-existent (most of Native America, Africa, and Asia) to an 8-14 age range (Europe). It was widely accepted that age of consent wasn't about signing contracts or making money (women didn't do either of those things) - it was about ability to commit to wifely duties. This includes sex, yes, but also cooking, cleaning, and child care. And 8 year old may not be ready to bear children, but she can cook and clean until she is. Even in America age of consent laws ranged from 7 to 12 for 200+ years.
In the early 1900's women got the right to vote in America, but only 18 year old women. Within a decade women raised the age of consent to 18 -- excluding their younger competition from the dating pool.
I'm not advocating for sex with 8 year olds. I'm advocating for a return to parents giving consent instead of women choosing for themselves. I personally think the proper age of consent lies between 14 and 16 if you were to have one, but every woman is different and only the parents know best.
