You don't get to choose which is the right church. The Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ and still has the apostolic succession. The Orthodox entered schism for political reasons, not for theological reasons, and there is no legitimate theological divide between us.

The New Living Translation is translated directly from the original texts, translations like the KJV are pozzed and not very accurate about translation. So the NIV and then a direct greek-to-english translation (i really like The Lexham English-Greek Reverse version) are your best bet

Everyone always talks big about the KJV, but once I started to study Greek and Latin, I realized that those translations, while written beautifully, are deeply flawed and lose a lot of meaning. RSVCE has been the best so far. It preserves much of the translation, and doesn't make Joseph, husband of Mary, seem like a doubtful retard.

Catholics and Orthodox worship and pray to dead people, contrary to what God says. They teach salvation is through works, rather than faith. Works are a sign of faith, but salvation is through faith alone. I was raised Southern Baptist, but honestly all Protestant denominations have had their leadership co-opted to some degree.
